How do you think Christanity spread so far and wide back in the day? I believe they were called The Crusades?
I don't get why someone would have a problem with the Ten Commandments. Even if you don't believe in God, Commandments 2-10 are ideas that should be embraced by everyone.
then let's just rename them "Common sense rules to live by" and make everyone happy
Actually, only roughly half make sense, the rest are rubbish with no bearing on real morality.
Agreed some are common sense, its hard to believe nobody thought murder was wrong before they were written down in the bible.
That was my whole point. The Commandments (minus the first) are hardly wild ideas only to be understood by Jews and Christians. This Wisconsin group seems to be just looking for something to offend them. I'm sure the court in Rogersville still functions in accordance with the law. If I read a Buddhist Proverb posted on the wall at my local post office, I would read it and either agree with it or not. I am positive that it would not offend me just based on the fact that I don't happen to worship Buddha.
To me, this just reeks of cheeseheads that ran out of crap to complain about who've decided to come tell some Tennessee hillbillies how to live.
I see it as someone in Rogersville searched them out because one person saying it wouldn't have lasted long in those parts. Get someone to do the work for you and it's much easier.
Good point.
And if so.
It sounds like locally he is in the minority, and realizing his stance will not fly he tries to garner support with those irrelevant to the situation.
so since he's in the minority his voice shouldn't be heard? Maybe he contacted them for advice on how to proceed and they offered to come help. Having been to Rogersville many times, I'm not sure they take kindly to anyone in a minority. Having someone get your back is always helpful
