With a playoff system is SEC pride important?

"SEC pride" is for chumps.

Then why hell stay in the SEC let's jump to the Mountain West or Big East quick.. Damn we could be top 25 in the Nation next year. Forget all this SEC BS...

I can't think of much dumber than rooting for our rivals, the teams against whom we recruit directly, to win championships because it somehow makes us "look better" to have lost to them. Every year we get nimrods on here beating their chests about how great other SEC teams are doing and how that somehow "helps" Tennessee. It's crap. Their success helps them. Not us.

A couple years ago when Auburn beat Oregon, we had a bunch of clowns arguing that that was a great result because SEC success helps Tennessee recruiting. A month later, Auburn beat us head to head on every recruit picking between us on NSD. It's idiocy.

So explain to me why we would stay in the SEC when we would DOMINATE a conference like the ACC or BIG EAST year in and year out?

If the SEC was like every other conference say the ACC or Big East then 5 and 4 star recruits wouldn't be dying to come here. UT directly benefits from its SEC connection and if the SEC losing its position as being revered as the best then we lose that recruiting advantage for being in the SEC.

I understand not wanting BAMA or FLA to succeed and in the SEC I agree and hate them both, but keeping the mystic that the SEC has built up as the best of the best is in the VOLNATION's best interest.

Again I know we will have to agree to disagree, but folks the SEC matters and UT benefits from that its not really even reasonable to argue it.

Did Tennessee do a better or worse job recruiting nationally before the conference's current BCS win streak began? If this is supposed to be helping us so much, why have our conference recruiting rankings steadily been getting worse for a decade?

I don't doubt that the "mystic" of the SEC helps us pull a few marginal guys from out of state who want to play in the SEC but don't have any better offers, but you're kidding yourself if you pretend that that hasn't been far offset by the recruiting advantage that actually winning themselves has given to the teams we're competing against.

I don't kid myself into believeing that just being in the SEC equals recruits but I like you think it sways those on the fence and the down turn you speak of I believe is directly related to the coaching nightmare we have had in the recent years and the successful hires other SEC teams have made.

Again the coaches, facilities, fanbase and personal advantage for the recruit (IE playtime..) make the greatest difference to recruit but when all that is close IE OSU/UM/TEXAS/USC sometimes SEC matters.

Again I understand just think that being in the SEC is the best place we can be and I appreciate that fact we play the best and when we win SEC championships it means more. If it didn't then let's move to the Big East cause CBJ has a GREAT track record there no doubt!!!

In closing GBO and see ya at the Orange and White this spring..

yes, because every other championship trophy added to Alabama's and Florida's cases while UT sits in a 5 year stretch of going 28-34...that certainly doesn't act to widen the already existing gap with these teams UT has to actively compete, recruit against, etc.

UT's record against the mountain west (FCS schools):
2008/11/08 Tennessee 7 - Wyoming 13 L
2006/09/09 Tennessee 31 - Air Force 30 W
2004/09/05 Tennessee 42 - UNLV 17 W
2002/08/31 Tennessee 47 - Wyoming 7 W
1999/09/04 Tennessee 42 - Wyoming 17 W

So other than one hiccup during what is undoubtably one of UT's worse stretch of football in our history we considered the Mountain West (conference to your blessed Broncos) our FCS games I guess and we are 4-1 against the Mountain West.

What does that say about Boise? Why do you think it is SO tough for the smurf turf eaters to get respect? Just like in life your judged by the company you keep and its the same in sports, you are judged by your competition. Bring Boise to the SEC west and then lets see how often they are in the top 25.

I am a VFL, UT is in the SEC and I am DAMN proud of both.

so what you are saying is Tennessee went from scheduling bottom feeders from lesser FBS conferences to playing bottom feeders from FCS conferences....ok..gotcha....and I say put Boise in the SEC east and watch them play in another BCS bowl.

you give Boise State 3 years in the SEC...with SEC backing...SEC money and SEC recruiting..Chris PetersEn would have them at the top of the SEC...and this is not an SEC pride thing...you put Boise ST. in ANY AQ conference, give them 3 years with backing, money and recruiting they would be at the top...look at TCU..so far they are doing the Big 12 proud.
