with a tear in his eye

I can't believe that anyone would have a problem with OUR football coach exhibiting emotion after a game like that. Brother Jones is leaving it all on the field, and it shows.

I absolutely agree. Emotion and leaving it on the field has been sorely missing from our last 2 coaches. I really think we got it right this time....Butch is our coach to bring us back.

I think he said in his post game that he felt bad for the upperclassmen who had been thru so much. He really wanted to win especially for them or was that just my dementia talking?

Sorry if posted, but anyone else see Butch wiping away tears after the game? Tell me again how he's not the right guy for Tennessee! I firmly believe he is more than just about the win, I believe he loves Tennessee.

I also wiped a tear from my eye. That was the first time, in a long time we saw the vols give all out effort for four plus quarters.

I think CBJ will get Tennessee back on the right track. I see a bowl game this year. Even if its not a prestigious bowl it would be better than what Dooley got us. Team 118 will be the rebirth of what Tennessee Football is all about.

Wow. Who knew crying was a sign of a good coach.

I dunno if it's sign of a good coach always, but it is a sign of strong passion for the game. I know one coach who has done it frequently and has little to prove about it.

Love it when people who have zero effort to contribute to a cause criticize those who do. Well done y'all. Makes you look real good and manly, and what not.

I love the fact he has that much love for his team and this state...He felt the pain as much if not more than anybody that day...Bout time We had a coach that does indeed give his all for Tennessee....Too bad some of our fans just don't get it like Butch does.

It happens all the time in the football forum, pretty annoying if you ask me.

What also happens all the time in the FF is people's emotions leading them to illogical conclusions. Winning football games makes you a good coach. Crying after a brutal loss doesn't. Don't get me wrong, I love the passion, but sheesh, let's not get carried away.

People posted similar threads when Dooley started. Absent of wins fans have to look for other things for encouragement. "Dooleys a class act. Glad we have a coach that does things the right way." Personally, I look to the improvement we saw on the field as a sign that he might be the right coach. But I'm just trying to be logical here.

It shows just how emotionally invested in the program Butch Jones really is. That all the family and togetherness talk isn't just talk, it's a new reality. Yes we lost but the only tears that would come from the last three teams would have been from missing out on a frat party after the game. This team and coaching staff are a true FAMILY. You could see it prominently on display in that game both on the field and on the sidelines. Win or lose, they will bring the fight to the opponent from here on out with a renewed since of confidence and won't that be fun to watch!

Wow. Who knew crying was a sign of a good coach.

It's not, but it does show that he has character that he cares. Shows also that he is determined to fix the problem with this team a totally committed coach to the rebuild process.

Doesn't make him a great coach, but indicates his level of commitment to the players, not the fans, on this team.

Let CBJ and staff coach this team. I think most fans are so butt hurt that they look at the negatives versus any positives.

There will be a time when fans need to move off the wagon or get on it, but doing the roadblock thing is not cutting it.

Fans are replaceable and when one leaves someone will fill the slot vacated. Why, because their are parents and grandparents that have seen greatness at volnation and that passion will be passed down.

You are wrong. Period. As a matter of fact, I believe you are letting your emotions lead you to illogical conclusions-- in the most literal sense of the word.

Logic: Cause -> Effect.

Logic: Winning football games == the results of a good coach. They don't cause a good coach.

Logic: Many variable go into won games. One of those variable could be emotional investment in the system, people, team, University, etc... which would combine with other variables to produce determination and the eventual result/effect of... Winning games.

Your emotions are leading you to post illogical claptrap. Please step back and think rationally about the situation before mindlessly dragging down a perfectly valid thread.

Most of the responses to this post are overall positive. There are always a few who are negative because they have negative personalities and have a negative mindset. They are always difficult to please no matter what happens in their lives. We all always have a choice to see things as "half-full" or "half-empty". Many negative people are never satisfied with anything less than a national championship. Rebuilding a team is a process and requires time and patience. Coach Jones has the ability to recruit and motivate his team. He has surrounded himself with quality assistant coaches. Players love him and want to play for him. Coach Jones has all the qualities to succeed. Give him time and the support he and the players need. If you are unable or unwilling to be positive, supportive, and patient, then it is probably time to find another team.

I wanted to cry. I sat on my couch silent for 15 min after the game it was just gut wrenching. The positive is how much this team has improved and the true fight that they showed. Things are getting better, I can feel it!

Mine were feelings of pride. When we went to overtime, I prepared myself for the letdown. But the heart and improvement that team showed in the 2nd quarter made me proud of that team, and much more confident the rest of the year.

And yes, CBJ's show of emotion says a lot to me as a fan. It means he is invested. And it's also a potential clue into why the team is invested, playing with heart, and gutting it out for their coach. It is absolutely a good sign of things to come.

It's called emotional investment. Something Fulmer lost, Kiffin never had, and Dooley didn't know how to have. He is INVESTED in UT. We haven't seen this in years.
