With Our Horrid DT Situation...

The Chavis lovers need only look at situational stats to realize that the overall stats picture did not tell a full or true story. Take some time and look at 2rd down stats, 3rd and long, etc... His schemes did not sync the coverage techniques with the pass rush.

I wanted Chavis gone before Sanders. This coming from a relatively new Vol fan. Heath Shuler era.

I agree with the OP. I'm amazed that a school that has produced such defensive line talents as Reggie White, John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, Jessie Mahelona, Dan Williams, Justin Harrell, Will Overstreet, Leonard Little, etc is having this much trouble at the DT position!

I agree, but it is what it is.

I believe that situation will drastically turn around over the next few years due to targeted recruiting to our needs by CDD, and especially due to the recruiting and coaching ability of Coach Chuck Smith.

how does every big-time DT in the Southeast not come to Tennessee? We literally have one SEC DT on the roster now. Instant playing time is a given by default.

Why not play at a top 10 program historically and play right away? I am probally unrealistic and I know I am desperate, but Tennessee can sell something to these recruits that no SEC program has been able to promise in years.

relationships with coaches, our's are still working on building that which just takes time and I know fans are impatient.

Then distance from home are always, always problems.

Having needs does not eliminate those things as being things that players AND families consider when choosing a school.

Trust me, I've seen the agony families go through trying to follow their kids playing ball at Tennessee. Most who can't afford to get to every game to see them and even those that can afford it, the effort it takes to get here is huge. The Ainge's basically flew all night every week to arrive in time for game. Very, very difficult on the families and the players...

Recruiting at Tennessee is what makes the job so very difficult... takes a lot of effort to sell the program. Not that we don't have a lot to sell, but the travel involved to make the pitches to families is rough on staff.
