With reports of Tee saying NO now....

I don't know much about this Weist guy and probably won't until he is hired to take the UT job (if he is hired, that is). That being said, I trust Butch Jones' judgment that his coaching hires will work out. I am in no way an expert on football coaching, playing, or the pedagogical art behind coaching up players, but if Jones says Weist is good to go, then I trust him.

I know people want to be enthusiastic about this hire, but I'm dumbfounded that so many people on here have just accepted the fact that the University of Tennessee decided to hire the staff at the University of Cincinnati for its most important hire in over a generation.

Thanks Hambone and Hart!

He's our coach and he's proven. I just wish Vol fans everywhere would support him

It happens all the time when a coach from a smaller program moves to a bigger job. It's been pointed out several times that Meyer brought more than half his staff from Utah (and some of those guys had been at Boling Green with him before that). CBJ is bringing in guys that know his system and have had success with it. There is nothing wrong with that until proven otherwise.

Well CBJ should have just said that he thinks his staff IS the best staff in the country then.

Not feed us BS about doing a thorough coaching search.

Yeah, I have to say that, while I think Butch Jones is a solid coach, I am concerned that he hasn't really upgraded his staff much. It would be one thing if they went 12-0 last year, but there definitely seemed to be room for improvement.

Now that Tee has turned us down, I'm really concerned about this staff's ability to recruit. I'm afraid that if things don't really pick up by signing day, it's going to be a long 12 months.

What is best? Of the so-called best, how many are available? Will they come if offered? At what price? If they do come, can they work together?

This is getting kinda ridiculous guys. 'Best' in this context is the staff that a) is available, b) we can afford, c) will come, and d) that can get the job done well. Grabbing a random group of coaches from around the country and building a so-called dream team will almost never produce the best results. Give it a rest. Really.

I'm conflicted in this regard. I want to get onboard and get behind this coach....but when I look at the staff, I'm not full of hope. We needed a big name HC....at least some big name staff hires. Instead we got a transplant of the Cincinnati staff to Knoxville.

If we can't get excited, how is a recruit supposed to? He may have a lot of confidence in his staff, x's and o's wise.....but on the recruiting front, he's putting himself further behind in the recruiting arms race.

at this point, CBJ can't afford to hire Weist. after missing on Tee, he needs a "big name" hire who is a proven recruiter.

If CBJ thought he needed big splash names on the staff, he'd have tried harder with regard to the rest of the staff. Not just WR.

Jay, Thigpen and Martinez have proven SEC recruiting resumes, but his old staff relative unknowns.

Jancek was at Georgia for a number of years.
