WKU Game - Random Thoughts

Last years team would hammer this team assuming they ran it 50 times. So will this one..42-14

The WK game will be much more difficult than most fans are willing to concede. I think it will depend on how we are able to run the football and 3rd down conversions. I haven't seen much production from our OL as far running the football, even though they have good stats for pass protection. The season may indeed depend on the ability of our OL to run block and have short yardage 3rd downs. It won't be long now until our questions are answered.

So a successful running game and 3rd down conversions are key to winning football games (generally).

Shut the front door! We had no idea.

Which begs the question of why are you hanging around this thread?

:zeitung_lesen: You started a really good thread dude. Just seeing what's up with all those that are posting. Hope you don't look like your avatar in real life cause it could be a problem for some.

We are not going to lose to WKU. I don't care who their coach is. My God some of our fans are such pansies.

Call me a pansy if you want, but this game worries me a little. We'll be coming off a big opening win and will have a tougher opponent a week after WKU. There is opportunity for the boys to be over confident and overlook the enemy at hand. From what I've seen of Coach Hutch and his staff lately I think they'll have this covered, but the possibility exists.

A big opening win? Austin Peay? Yeah they're a real juggernaut.

Yes teams usually bring in fresh legs on the DL, but so much on the OL.

Traditionally, I agree with you. But a smart coach might try this to exploit the thinness we have behind our starting OL. I think the WKU does have a reputation for being unorthodox so he might try that.

Ha ha! Funny guy. As for my avatar, I'm long past the teenager overly self-conscious concern about about how others think I look. But my avatar selections do echo an enduring truth about a trait I have which is marching to the beat of a different drummer. Vols forever!!!!!!!

The possibility exists that aliens will land in Neyland at halftime and throw a monkey wrench into this entire analysis of yours.

I actually agree with OP here. Maybe not for the reasons that he listed, but depending on just how sloppy we look (because we still have a lot of questions that can't be overlooked, especially before we've played a down under CBJ), and how much the players are focused on Oregon the following week.. I think there's a definite upset possibility here. A VERY slim possibility, but it exists, nonetheless. I'm about 95% sure UT will win by at least two touchdowns, but crazier sh*t has happened, and about 5% of me is afraid that WKU squeaks one out by a few points. Petrino's known for his offense... and UT defense definitely had some problems. Granted, given all that, I think we'll be pretty patched up and tremendously improved, but still...

I'm not. Dooley even infected our fan base with a loser mentality apparently

Seriously, I like your avatar picture because it says so much about the kinds of scary masks that can be bought at Disney World in Orlando. :rock2: Back to TN Vols, I see the Vols beating WKU by 17pts to start the season. I think it may be a struggle at first to get the butterflies out of the way but we pull away in the 2nd half. I haven't looked at their roster but we should spank them good in the trenches. We beat them & move to the next game that comes up.

This is the ultimate trap game

Not much of a trap, considering they've already beaten an SEC opponent recently and they have an outstanding offensive mind as their head coach.
Tennessee knows what WKU is capable of. We won't overlook them.

The definition of a trap game is when you play a weaker team sandwiched between two rival games. So no a home opener is not a trap game.

Austin Peay is home owner, WKU is 2nd game of season. No?

So in the second game of the first year of a new offense installation, all of the OL will be up to speed on all their reads and communication and be able to rotate in and out more than any team has ever rotated OL because of how difficult it is to not have consistency on the OL? Color me very skeptical.
