What a great interview, a fine reflection on the LVs. My first (and total Girl Dad) thought about Seattle was "It's so far away!" I was hoping for something closer to Ohio or TN. But I'm sure Jordy will be ok and it seems to be a nice fit for her.

This is such a total win for KJH. The battle for Jordy's maturity and head was real and she and KJH hung together thru it all and built a great relationship. Proud of both. I believe this reset is going to be great for Jordan.

Reese just said Rickea is her toughest matchup.
Now... that's a joke. Come on.
Not sure why that would be a joke, or even surprising. Rickea was the last player (and TN the last team) to beat Angel and the only one to do it besides Boston and SC. RJ had a double double in the effort, and carried the team alone in the first half. Not getting the joke.

One more thing about the draft. As a decidely non fashion expert, I thought Boston looked terrific. She has a certain cool, never trying too hard and her look reflected that. Also thought Brea Beal looked sharp, and of course loved Jordy doing Jordy. Zia looked amazing, but maybe more for a prom than a draft.

So...one game makes her a defensive stopper. Sorry, but full disclosure...I chuckled. RJ isn't a top-50 defender in the SEC. That's not her thing. Reese was just being kind here. That's admittedly different from her. I didn't say RJ couldn't put up points. That's not defense. I don't even have to look at the game and I can tell you RJ wasn't playing one on one defense against Reese the entire game. And since you mentioned SC...I think when Reese wakes up and reviews her performance in that game, then she'll realize what tough defense looks like.

Not talking one on one defense, wasn't clear that was the context of Angel's comment. I'm talking game results. In the superstar matchup, RJ got the best of Reese that night and came away w the win. Last time anyone did that, so logical that one was on Reese's mind.

In the one on one D matchup, Angel obviously didn't do a very good job against RJ either, and they did go one on one some. LOL, Angel is not given to being kind, esp when comparing to herself.

Angel is delusional at times. She thinks she's not a center, but she is. She left MD because she wanted to be a Shakira Austin. She's just not. The WNBA will explain it to her. If she was guarding RJ, then maybe that's why they loss. She can't match her quickness on the perimeter.

Can't match RJ's quickness in the post either. I actually hope RJ has to post up much less now that TK is back. She's quick, but much too slight, which the WNBA will explain to her. But RJ in the post was our go to this year when desperately in need of a bucket.

Agree, Angel's offensive skills aren't what she thinks they are.

Its not on the league to pay more, it’s on the public to support and put money into the WNBA. If people fill up the arenas and buy the merchandise, the salaries will increase.
Agree, and this group of players feels like a chance for the league to spark additional public interest. They certainly did so in the college game. I'll give it another look.

No so can you explain?

You must be in the age range of 96-112 to not have a pretty good understanding of the different types of young women in sports. Nevertheless, I'll take a shot at a brief explanation of modern women:

There are super feminine girls who appear to take extra time and go to great effort to express their traditional femininity. Off the court they'll often wear dresses and heels and form-fitting outfits that draw attention to their figures. They often enjoy using makeup and don't mind paying for regular trips to salons to get their nails and eyelashes professionally enhanced because they enjoy the feeling of being girly and the compliments they get for having gone to all that trouble. A few female athletes will even go extra lengths to femme themselves up more than they naturally feel in order to send a strong signal to everyone that, "Hey! I'm not a lesbian!" (Of course, there are millions of super-femme lesbians, but they aren't typically playing college basketball from what I've gathered.)

With few exceptions, it's going to be the girls who are comfortable looking and dressing super-traditionally-feminine who will get the most and best NIL deals because these deals are likely largely driven by "how hot and bothered does this girl get the average heterosexual male."

Then there are the boyish girls -- like Horston. Girls like Jordan, off the court, tend to have a far more casual and somewhat masculine style in their dress and manner. You will not see these girls wearing high heels or short, form-fitting lacy dresses. These girls are not going to wear long false lashes or have sparkly inch-long talons. You won't ever see photos of these girls that make you blush or feel like a dirty old man (or woman). Many young women in this category are young lesbians -- or at least still trying to figure things out. But they already know that wearing dresses and heels doesn't feel natural for them -- in fact, even the idea of it makes most feel downright uncomfortable -- so they don't do it. This decision often comes with tremendous difficulty, as the pressure to look "girly" is incredibly strong in our society.

Girls in this category don't usually tickle the loins of straight males, so these girls aren't usually goung to find themselves signing one after another lucrative NIL deals.

The Jordan Horston types are brave as hell to be their natural selves, and I believe that is what LVrennaisance was getting at.

P.S. I stupidly failed to mention the majority of players today fall somewhere in the middle, but the pressure is always there for young women everywhere to look and behave super girly. At least in my observation.

@lvocd,

Thanks for that explanation. I am a self-confessed member of the clueless cohort, and it's good to learn new things. Yes, I am ancient. Compound that fault with being male, hetero, and the father and grandfather of males only. When I watch and listen to college women BB players, I see some who appear to be obviously gay or straight, and some who could be either, and I ignore that and focus on their manner, their manners, or lack of same, their articulate or garbled expression, their intelligence. In short, are they nice, bright and therefore likable kids—most are—or not.

Yeah, that must've been a crushingly difficult decision for you. 😂

It made for one memorably-awkward Thanksgiving dinner.

Mom eventually got over it and moved onto a bigger obsession, obtaining a phD. Much as I hated to disappoint them, had to sidestep that ambition, too.

She did finally come around to my choice of bride from a family of limited resources, especially when she enjoyed the benefits of having a RN two miles away.

Lawdy, Jordan's look today is amazing. So far the best -- but I could be biased. 🧡
First and foremost congrats to Jordy and best of luck. Secondly, I must be old fashioned or something but I wasn’t digging her get-up for the draft. Threads were nice, but like almost every other woman I saw out there, they were wearing dresses.

It's incredibly difficult to stand out as different, which is exactly why I am so proud of Jordy. I'm sure you weren't the only one who didn't like her draft outfit, but the only thing that matters is if she felt comfortable and attractive ... right? I loved it, and actually wish I knew where she got the white shirt. Niiiice!

Seemed many of them were wearing pant suits (Boston, Miller, Jones, Beal, Soares, LLS among others).

Morris was also wearing a more traditional male suit, but the fitted jacket and solid color worked well for her. I do wonder if the draftees are given funds for their attire, because a LV suit jacket probably goes for at least $3k.
