Louisville was in her finalists, as was TN. And I believe UConn. Sam made enough of an impression that they remained in contact all those years, according to both of them. And Rickea has said the second time that connection was the key one. She trusted Sam at a time she trusted almost no one else. My point was that's why that kind of connection, which takes years to form, are so important to recruiting. Esp now that you do get second chances.

Ordinarily I'd think the AD dept has no time for this stuff. But it's too fresh on my mind when I laughed at the PR guy who said the lack of season ending tweet fm DW was significant and the Cora story about buyout was a huge signal. He was correct about both, proving AD does actually engage in this. As I said, I'm sure Sam already knew, bc it would be beyond nasty if this is how she found out. All the more reason if she already knew, for God's sake, not to leak this to the world while Sam's literally in the air to represent the university for Rickea's big day. That's just brutal. Hope like hell it turns out just to be coincidence. No one needs this crap.

Agree. I too hope it was just a coincidence, because this will take away from what should be a moment of accomplishment for Rickea and the University.

Danny White had a chance to make a first impression in describing his expectations of the new coach. He said:

Help me out on possible other intrepretations. Because I see none. He said what he said. "No 2, 3, or 4 yr plan" couldn't be clearer. I agree, setting these expectations was crazy and wreckless. For me this is Horrible Bosses material. And probably the thing I'm most upset about. Totally and completely unfair to CKC.

Exactly. Under promise and over deliver. And I get this is a very bombastic, high risk AD that loves a good gamble. Raising the stakes probably comes naturally. But the move here was to advise patience, and admit this would be a methodical ground up build. Just tell the freaking truth.

Next season was already going to be rough without a significant portal haul, and every single thing that's happened and been revealed since DW made his over promise has pointed exactly to a 2, 3, 4 yr plan. Why in the world he would wratchet up the pressure on her for immediate success is just beyond me. Did her zero favors.

With Brink 2nd to LA and Kamilla 3rd to Chicago? I've heard that more the last few days, whereas before RJ to Chicago at #3 seemed a lock. I can't wrap my brain around Brink over Rickea or Kamilla really. A pod cast I listened to yesterday said the Dallas Wings are praying that by miracle Rickea might be around for their #5 pick. Said their GM really covets her as the next Satou Sablally. But also said the chance of her being around at #5 were practically nil. Hope she doesn't fall out of the lottery.

Loved that Rickea looked so relaxed and happy on the video yesterday, jjust pulling up like "hi ya'll I'm here!".

Well, there are multiple ones. I will ignore the obvious, cynical ones so as not to contribute to a negative vibe.

I think the interpretation that seems most likely in the context of the press conference is that his statement was a not so subtle way to justify the coaching change. "See, this team should have been able to compete for a natty" which pairs with his "good is the enemy of the great" quote. It also may have secondary implications for CKC -- we had a 'good" coach but now we have a "great" one.

Could be, but by any interpretation it was a wild, unnecessary over promise. Esp egregious if it was to cover his own arse. Whatever the reason, poor CKC is going to wear "no 2, 3, or 4 yr plan" around her neck like an albatros. It's clear to see that is exactly the plan, or if not the plan, the reality. Bad own goal by the AD.

Maybe it will be like the last time Harper was replaced at a power 5 school…. She went 17-17 7-11 in conference… The next year, wes moore went 25-8 11-5 in conference.

Fans have no opportunity to "give" her anything. Only season ticket holders and donors do. Everyone ignores us and rightfully so. Nothing said here effects the new coach in any way. We are not the givers of "chances".

Actually, Volstylexx was hot and heavy on the social media signals.

I was the one insisting that Cora's story on Kellie's buyout terms was much more than clickbait. Then Jewell's commitment to Tennessee threw me off (though Jewel later said, she assumed Kellie would be coach when she committed).

Deerpark came in later to make a compelling case that UTAD social media is not indication of what is going on behind the scenes and that Volstylexx was way over thinking these supposed signals.

Volstylexx also read those same social media signs to confidently predict that Caldwell was a subterfuge ploy and that Dawn Staley or Hammon would soon be landing in Knoxville.

I think the conclusion is that everyone on this board who speculated about the "signs" was a like a broken clock....
