Worley Facts!

It was a leading question.

But yeah. So the Ol' ball coach is 1-1 vs Worley led teams.

Well, Worley did of course single handedly defeat USEe. At least, to hear some other posters here tell it.

I assume these posters also think Trent Dilfer was one of his generations greatest quarterbacks.

Don't get me wrong, I like Worley and think his game was making strides forward last year when he got hurt. I was just pointing out that Worley is 1-1 vs SoCar not 1-0.

And Dilfer was one of this generations greatest QB's. Just ask him. :)

(This coming from Sjt18 in the Worley starting QB thread..
Which makes ton of sense if people would open up their minds...)

"Jones doesn't run a read option O. His O is a hybrid spread O with west coast elements to it. It is probably more similar to Dave Clawsen's ideal than Urban Meyer's. He has frequently said he wants his QB to pull it a couple of times per game just to keep the D honest but he does NOT need a running QB. He wants playmakers and a QB that gets them the ball.

A QB with mobility is often a good thing... if they can learn that they are not the first or second option.

He has said... ad nauseum that he first and foremost wants someone who manages the offense. I can't really blame you for missing or ignoring it though... a large contingent of UT fans who post here keep acting as they're oblivious to his statements though we've pointed them out many times."

Disagree. Nothing personal but we run the read option play a lot. That's not message board opinion, it's a fact. Butch has run that play consistently at all of his stops and there are articles in the past detailing how that's the most important part of his offense. He may say a running QB is not a big deal now because he doesn't have a running QB but his last year at Cincinnati he had 2 QBs that played extensively and they rushed 103 times for 641 yards. The read option is hard to defend because there are 2 running options and passing options as well. I believe the QB rushing stats from his previous coaching stops rather than message board opinion. I'm not saying our QB has to be Michael Vick but someone like Heath Shuler would be perfect for this offense. Again, great for Worley that he put in the work and won the job. I do think he will be better this year. We'll just agree to disagree that this offense suits his skill-set the best.

It all comes down to whether they're designing an offense around Worley and then they'll try to recruit Worley prototype players going forward or are they trying to build something else and then recruit the right QB for their system. Inexperience in the trenches and the brutal schedule will probably be enough to sink our battleship and any real hope for success will be pinned to putting the ball in the hands of our young play makers and hoping they don't have a lot of turnovers. Worley got to play behind a pretty darn good line the past couple of years and he won't have that luxury this time out. I just don't see how it's reasonable to expect a big coming out.

Coach Jones please go anywhere and everywhere, search and find us another another QB Tee Martin, Steve McNair, Randall Cunningham etc. Heck man Kevin Bacon went all the way to Africa to find Saleh in the movie The Air Up There.

I'm still unsure whether he gravitates more to the RichRod or Kelly branch of the tree. I figured that he tipped his hand when Dobbs went in but that may not have been the case.

I have seen the impressive Worley passing stats from high school. Since he was throwing to Cordarrelle Patterson for 2 years I have always wondered how many of those yards were after the catch?

Freshman and Sophomore years. CP was gone Worley's Jr. and Sr. years!

Worley threw for over 5200 yds as sr and completed 73% of his passes! Again I go back to my original 1st sentence to this thread, "In the right offense" he can be great!

:loco:

He does have a SB ring to his credit, so he's got that going for him.

Being from Cincinnati, I saw a lot of Butch's games there and running QBs was not a big part of his offense. The best QB he had at UC was Zach Collaros and he had y/c rushing of 1.7 one year and 2.8 the next. Munchie Legaux was a not nearly the QB Collaros was and that's because he was much more a running QB than a passer. Picture a smaller Kelley Washington. That's not to say that he wouldn't have liked to have QB that could do both but the point being that his offenses were very productive with a guy behind center who can accurately throw the ball, make good decisions and scramble to avoid trouble.

The last part of this is why can't UT and Butch Jones recruit us better options at QB? He's not the stud recruiter he's made out to be until he can get us a top notch QB

One thing I do like about Worley as our QB is he's not a gunslinger like Manning, Bray etc. In other words we will be much more balanced, and we should have the backs to move the chains, if OL is any good.
