I like his songs that don't play on the radio much more. "Sinners Like Me" and "Those I've Loved Along the Way" are two of my favorites of his. Have you heard those, by chance? "Drink in My Hand" is good, but it's an overplayed theme. You'd like those other two songs much more, I think.

How bout you, carolina, these boots, ride the lightnin, all good ones to

Read this article: The Origins & Epicenters of Underground “Muddy” Roots and realize that the country music that you listen to on the radio and see on the CMA isn't the only thing going. It's just pop music now and is only different from "pop" music in the instruments they choose to use.

There is a whole slew of country music bands out there you'll never hear on the radio or see on CMA that are creating unique sounds... if you have Spotify, you can try many of them out for free.

I really like "The Hard Way". Great song.
And much of the problem with pop country is that they're pandering to very casual listeners who only want to hear the same message over and over again. Eric Church is awesome IMO. It's why I buy the whole album... the best stuff isn't on radio.
And yes, there is a lot more traditional country out there. I've mentioned the Texas country scene (Eli Young Band, for example). Little to no electric guitar (not that it's bad, but it's more "country") and a more rugged, "who cares if this makes it to Nashville" sound. As me and Pepe said, Jamey Johnson is awesome. Throwback sound all the way.

I agree. It is what it is though. I agree Alot of artists have the pop vibe and EC has a few songs that are to but sometimes you gotta play what sells. I know ive come off as i only listen to eric church but i listen to a bit of it all

Have you listened to sean patrick mcgraw?

I haven't heard EC live other than on the show the other night, but if that is indicative of his singing talent then he is much closer to Kris Kristofferson than Cash or Haggard. There are a number of songs I like from today's country music genre, my comments were mainly concerning the lack of true singing talent. As an example, I like a lot of Rascal Flats songs but I would never pay to hear them sing live.

I never liked EC until i got drug to an aldean concert and he was there. If you ever seen him live at a small venue you would see. Even go on youtube and watch some of his concerts. Hes very id say emotional and really gets into the songs. Hell he broke his leg few years ago by stomping his leg so hard

Jamey Johnson's Black and White double CD is outstanding. He gets no love because of the pop country nowadays. He is awesome.

If country just would have started to hit its peak then church, aldean etc would be the cash, merle, waylons and 20 years from now people would say its not the same. I love all the old country and i like the new. So if i like the old why cant yal like the new.

Its gonna be what it is yal need to either listen to it or shut the **** up about it not being what it use to.

And eric church does not suck.

God, Jason Aldean is such a douchebag with his skinny jeans and earrings.

What a horrible production so far. Not to mention the number of artists who can't carry a tune without the help of technology.

What I wouldn't give to hear some George, Merle, Vince, or anyone who can actually sing.

Zac Brown band excluded from the above rant.

Thank goodness for Lady Antebellum.

So you trash everyone in today's country save Lady Antebellum? That makes no sense. They are the second most pop country band out right now, save only Rascall Craps. I mean Flatts.

What? I didn't trash everyone just some of the ones that were singing (or trying to) during the show. I did, however, also exclude the Zac Brown Band... they were (and are) very good imo.

They deserve even more respect than what they are given if you ask me. Very talented, down to Earth guys.

I swear Sara Evans just keeps getting hotter!!!!

+1 on the Sara Evans, there's just something about her.

Now on the other side of hotness there's Reba. She should be a case study in plastic surgery gone wrong. Kinda got a always surprised, mouse, burn victim thing going and her voice. Like finger nails on a chalkboard.

Couldn't agree more! EVERYONE knows today's country isn't what it use to be but that can be said for EVERY genre of music or just about anything else in life. Is football still played like it was 20-30 years ago? Not even close...adjust or just don't listen.

Besides I'm pretty sure most cities have at least one radio station either partially or totally dedicated to "old school" country. It's not like those who can't stand modern country have to live with it if they don't want to. I do remember a station in Knoxville that plays a 50/50 mix of each.

No orignal artists in country anymore, just products of the nashville studios.
