It has to be May or Pollack. These 2 are the closest to being labeled as full blown mentally challenged people without really being.

Blackledge, Danielson, and Herbstreit have no business on that list. The choice is between Palmer and Pollack.

May is wrong most of the time, his judgement is clouded by his love for the big 10 and his jealousy of the SEC. :twocents:

Danielson is annoying, but he really knows his stuff. No way he belongs in the conversation. Whoever said they've never heard Herbie bring something meaningful to the commentary needs to clean their ears out and buy a Beltone, you haven't been paying attention. My vote probably goes to Matt Millen.

I tend to think Herbie is the best on that list, though that isnt what you asked.

If we could convince Vern, Dan, Lou, Corso and May to leave their jobs the college football world would be better off, in my view.

Bad sports announcers? No one on that list comes close to the UT radio announcers in the era between Lindsey Nelson and John Ward. Now those guys were really, really bad! One was forced to listen if one wanted to follow the game as it happens. With TV one can always do without sound so the quality of announcing is unnoticed.

I have five games going at once on Saturday and Sunday with no sound anywhere. I could care less who is doing the announcing!

Lou Holtz...closely followed by Verne. Lou Holtz's voice plus his homerism for ND and USCe make him unbearable for me to listen to.

Are you talking about George Mooney or his sidekick, Bob Foxx? If you are talking about George, I must respectfully but profoundly disagree. Mooney was not as colorful as John Ward, nor did he paint quite as brilliant a verbal picture, but, in my opinion, his delivery style was more professionally polished. Here are film (and audio) clips from some of his signature play calls, including the legendary 1956 duel with Georgia Tech and "The Stop" against Billy Cannon and LSU in 1959: Vol Network Announcer George Mooney Dies - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics.
