I realize that the wording of the thread is off! I get that the PSU disaster was way worse than this! I should have worded the title differently "worst PR disaster in a coach search".


It completely blows my mind that the people in charge, Dave Hart or whoever, could let the Gruden thing come to this! Whether UT was getting Gruden or not, SOMETHING/ANYTHING should have been said! The Gruden cliff note thread alone has almost 1.2 million hits! How can they not say anything?!

a former nfl head coach indicated he was not interested in a head coaching position at a major university.

the shame that will come from this will last forever.

UT had nothing to do with this. A few liars started a fire that got out of hand. They hoped it would go away. They leaked info to reports that it was false, but the liars called the reports not credible.

Worst expectations...from Grudenites expecting their savior to come down from the heavens and take the UT job and then blaming Hart because he said no thanks. And I thought Justin Beiber fans were bad.

This is a problem because people, who had no business in a coaching search (fans/media etc), made it a problem. We should celebrate when a big name is hired, not create a media **** storm to get our way.

People would have just claimed it was a smoke screen if Hart had issued a denial.

As a matter of fact, there are some still in denial over denials.

If Dave Hart is expected to call a presser and address the situation everytime a rabid fanbase wants to run with a fabricated story he would never get anything done. The fact that fans wanted to believe "It's Done" and "Soon" from some storytellers in Gruden thread #1943 it's their own fault. Dave Hart had nothing to do with that.

This would only be true if it is found out that Gruden did want the job and basically Hart made it not happen. Otherwise, it's a pretty normal situation blown out of proportion by....us.

when it comes to fandom, you don't get to say "never" a lot.

but, i have never seen any fan base blame someone for not following through on a rumor that they created. or be blamed for not dismissing the rumor that they created.

never seen that happen.

UT didn't do this, the people on this board did! UT can't be held responsible for a bunch of people making up stories and some who really thought they had a source that obviously isn't a source or lied to them. Gruden isn't interested, once he said it and today his guy said it for him. Move on, not UT's fault.
