Sources think he would listen but who knows? I see more and more college coaches tiring of all the BS in thecollege game.

If the money and conditions are right he just might. The NFL has to be a better gig than college now.

Kirby's style doesn't seem like a fit for the NFL at all. He's as successful as he is in college because he's a great recruiter and motivator, and is an alum of the school he's coaching, who is effectively giving him unlimited resources.

Recruiting is an irrelevant skill for an NFL coach, and motivational abilities a marginal skill because those guys are professionals.

Agreed. But it would get him away from UGA. And because it's the Titans he surely would be available within a couple of years, and Saban could retire with the best possible replacement option ready to go. It's a win for everyone.

Even if the Titans were interested, do you think he'd leave UGA? Hell, he might be taking a pay cut, although with a college coaching job there's so much non-football BS that you have to deal with.

Kirby is not a fit for the NFL.

He’s a great recruiter who has more talent than anybody in the SEC besides Bama.

Highly doubt he’d leave his comfy job to coach an NFL team.

NFL HC is a pretty dang comfortable job with probably less stress and hours.

Debatable.

Smart is able to get the best players pretty much every year while in the NFL, you can’t just out man your opponents.

Could he win in the NFL? Maybe but he has all the resources he needs to be successful at the college level.

Seems like it’s far more of a risk than an upgrade to give all that up.

I'm not sure if there is less stress. It is probably a different kind of stress; instead of trying to convince 17-year-olds to sign with your program, you're spending 50 hours a week just on watching film to find something you can exploit against an opponent on one play, which might very well be the difference between winning and losing. It's harder to field a consistently successful team in the NFL.

If it were up to me, I'd rather coach in the NFL. There is just so much non-football related BS you have to put up with in college, and recruiting season never ends.

I’m not sure if Smart would go to the NFL but he has a top 10 class at the worst locked up every year at UGA and is located in one of the most talent rich states as well. That is some serious job security.

...and he went to school there. He'd be insane to go to the NFL.

The real question as far as I'm concerned is when does Georgia turn on him?

The Dawgs think they should be NC every year now. How many years does Kirby go not winning one until they think they can find someone better?

Face it, you have to have a little bit of luck to win a NC in terms of injuries. Bowers and McConkey being dinged in the championship game killed them. Can't expect to have all your playmakers healthy at the end of each season like Georgia did in 21 and 22. Truth be told, I'm not even sure they beat Bama for the 21 championship unless all the Tide receivers were hurt.

Also harder to get grown men to buy into what you are trying to build. If you are a control freak that wants to be in charge of the entire operation, the NFL is not your gig. Vrabel lerned that lesson today. Saban and Spurrier learned it years back. If Harbaugh is going back, it is only because he is in trouble with whatever authoritates college football now.

In college, the coach gets the lions share of credit for winning a championship. In the pros, the star players eclipsed the coach when they win a superbowl.

Kirby Smart with the Titans would be almost the opposite of him coaching Georgia. Instead of having the best roster every year, he'd have the worst.

I don't think Kirby would make a good NFL coach. The things he's best at (e.g. recruiting) are the things that aren't that important in the NFL. And you have to be a top-tier play-caller in the NFL to succeed, which Kirby is not.

Not soon. They remember the Richt-Donnan-Goof years all to well.

Well yeah, they're not going to can him tomorrow or anything-how about if he comes up short say the next five years.

Maybe Bama wins another one or two in the meantime-would drive GA fans mad. Hell, maybe the Vols win one-which would cause GA fans to really go off the deep end

Just saying, most of the Georgia fans I know think this run is just gonna go on and on. I'm not so sure how they react when they come back to earth a little bit.

I don’t know but I’ll say this…Lord God Almighty if you’re ever going to grant us a wish, please allow the Falcons to make that man an offer he can’t refuse. Please cloud his judgment into taking the job!

Who knows how successful Kirby might be in that role but history hasn’t been kind to College “process” coaches. The drill sergeant like/disciplinarian coaches can do well in cfb but it’s typically the “scheme” coaches that seem to thrive in today’s nfl. Guys like Shanahan, McVay, Sirruanni, McDaniel, Peterson, Reid are all scheme guys more so than anything. The only real process coach I can think of is belichick and he hasn’t done $hit without Brady.
