Would U.T. Students Be Happy With This?

Yep - we also have our share of "talkers" who always participate but don't know what the hell they are talking about.

I was shocked at the number of complete morons sitting around me and in my small group. It's relative, but I just assumed it would be different. It wasn't.

Most business concepts are not hard to grasp on the surface but it's pretty easy to separate those that really get it and those that simply know the words - at least in Marketing.

So many of our AMs (Admission Mistakes) were undergrad lit and Western Civ types and math just wasn't their bag, so operations, finance, QA and such just killed them, but the place milks people along, as kickouts or dropouts are bad news.

The university requires a B average to graduate from any grad program.

We are going to up that a bit with a 3 C's and you're out - most of those C's would be quant courses.

marketing has to the biggest waste of class time in any univeristy (no offense if you teach marketing :)).

hell, we would have dragged a student to the moon and back before kicking them out. Looks too bad for the ranking outfits.

Come on bro, you just invalidated Kellogg as a graduate school.

I thought some of the marketing we did was actually worthwhile. Digging through old McDonald's stuff to see the overarching theme for 20 years was interesting as was learning all of the marketing style decisions that drive the strategic process, especially in product development. Interesting interaction marketing plays with the the rest of the business.

Marketing = demand generation/management
Operations = fulfilling demand
Finance = paying for it

I've seen too many students fail simply because they didn't come to class until the last quarter of the semester. Now, when I was in undergrad it was the individual's problem. But with most students being paid for by the state, it has become state money that they are wasting.

I don't have a problem with it. It isn't "Big Brother," it's class. Taking attendance is not "Big Brother."

yeah i can agree w this.

My buddy Petey (Drucker) knows the deal.

"Because the purpose of business is to create a customer, the business enterprise has two--and only two--basic functions: marketing and innovation. Marketing and innovation produce results; all the rest are costs. Marketing is the distinguishing, unique function of the business."

Not sure why the OP refers to this as "Big Brother". It cracks me up that as someone who is paying good money (or your parents are paying) would call an attendance tracker "Big Brother". Hell, they did it in Elementary, Middle and High School. What's wrong with the same concept in college?

the way i see it, at the college level you are an adult, and you should be able to make your own decisions. There were quite a few classes i had at the undergrad level that all i had to do was read the book and follow the notes online and i was fine, and i graduated with a 3.8, same with grad school. some people are not like that but it all comes down to what it takes to succeed in college. Time management, and skill allocation
