Would we be better off leaving the SEC?

It just doesn't seem like with the CFP that winning a conference title isn't as prestigious as it once was, would we be better off in the ACC or Big 12? It's not like the SEC is like it used to be...
Not calling you stupid but this is some stupid ****

As I mentioned in another thread, this place can be a fountain of stupid sometimes. Just when I think it can’t top itself, it does it in spades.

Just to humor the OP, we would win any other conference just about every year.

The SEC is loaded with so many great teams, where it's actually a bowl game every week.

'Perceived' being the operative word there. It's only perception based on the big money and the national media's fawning over the Big 10, because team for team the bottom 3/4 of the ACC and Big 12 are no worse than the Big 10.

Ohio State and Oregon are better than anyone in those conferences, but other than that it is pretty much a wash. The Big 10 is far closer to those conferences in terms of competition than they are to the SEC.
Michigan is not usually like this tho either, and Penn state would win the big12.most years and be in the fight in the acc

Also, Tennessee isn't an AAU school which is an absolute must for the big ten as they make far.mpre.$.from.gramts than sports.

All.in all,.bad move I feel like UT is close to getting over the hump

I remember “back in the day” when Florida State was “independent” (Not in a Conference).

When they decided to join the ACC instead of the SEC, Bobby Bowden said: “I’d rather be a live coward than a dead hero”!

— NO JOKE! - That’s what he said!

The ACC is WEAK & it has ALWAYS been WEAK!

Even Clemson wouldn’t have made it to a title game if they played in the SEC!

(Props to Florida State for beating Florida in 1998, though…. Facing Ole Spurrier twice in one year would have been a nightmare!)

I'm certainly not making the idiotic case of changing conferences, just commenting on the way the SEC and Big 10 are considered by the media as "equals".

Michigan had a couple of great seasons, but they have been kind of like Penn State for the most part over the last decade, a bully school that beats up on bad Big 10 competition but loses to really good teams.

Bobby Bowden owned Spurrier. Sign that the SEC was weaker then because the Champion kept losing OOC games.

The playoff system is really flawed. The problem with the conference is that there are so many teams that there will be little case for who the best truly is. You can be like Texas or Indiana and somehow dodge pretty much everyone just by the luck of the draw.

We shouldn’t leave. It would kill us financially and we are a charter member who should lead the way. TBH, we wouldn’t be having this debate if we hadn’t choked against Arkansas.

Historically Michigan was equal to all but the top of the food chain sec teams and I say this with nothing but seething hatred for that school/team

They recruit fairly well, put a good amount of guys in the NFL and have a 'style' that fits them

Don't always translate though. Ohio State Oregon are the only really consistent teams there

Washington, usc, Wisconsin and iowa have their flare ups. Usc and Washington can recruit well, the other two take a lot of three stars and mold them to their.system which has a ceiling but has traditionally been good for 9/10 wins

Penn State is generally good for two losses every year. But beats everyone they need to, frames is a bonafide loser though

Trust me, we’re gonna want the conference with the biggest payout.

Washington and USC are Pac 12 teams, so I'm not counting them here. Iowa and Wisconsin are nice programs but rarely a factor nationally. Penn State is the ultimate bully school, beating up on bad Big 10 teams (which is most of the conference) and losing to anyone with a pulse.

Disagree on Michigan. Take away the last three seasons with Harbaugh and they have been decidedly average with a decent season here and there since their success with Lloyd Carr in the '90's.
