Wow new season same result / play style

I'm not throwing in the towel yet, but the offense need to change or this is going to be a very long season. I can not believe that after a whole year with the same core players on the team we come out and play like that. Clearly not the players fault. Yes shots were not falling but thats when Cuonzo needs to have a go to play to end the drought or at least tell Mcrae to drive and get fouled. This offense was pitiful, and with the new rules Mcrae/Barton/Richardson should be averaging at least 25 free throws a game combined. Hope Cuonzo figures something out or this is going to be a long season.

Maymon hasn't played in a year and Barton and Hubbs are new. Give them time to learn to play together.

This never changes with this team. They take way too many 3 point shots instead of taking it to the rim or making short jumpers. They made 8-19 three pointers tonight. The last two were made within the last 20 seconds. The foul shooting still sucks but it's taking all the 3 point shots that keeps killing their momentum.

Our perimeter shooting was not the issue tonight, it was free throws and piss poor defense.

It was half of the reason why. Look at how many 3's Xavier shot? 2-8!! The more you keep throwing up the ball the less chances you have of scoring in the paint.

If we didn't hit I would agree, however we shot over 40% from three which is almost always a winning number.

We Couldn't score in the paint because the big slow white guy was too busy dominating Stokes and Maymon.

Just relax and let the season play out. Then if it doesn't work out it can be settled in the offseason.

No, how about YOU relax and let the season play out singing la de da. Some of us cant stomache seeing the same old underachieving ways of this SOFT team!! Why does our fanbase feel so loyal to protect and coddle our staffs and players? Never understood it...

I understand the premise. I just disagree with it.

Based on what? Please elaborate?

Our record in confrence
Our record against top 25 teams?
Our success in the Sec tourney
Our Succuess in making the tourney?
Our success in the NIT?

The bottom line is this fan base had no choice but to stay optomistic for this team that played tonight and it gave us absolutely zero reason to believe that the problem did not start and lie with cuonzo the last three years. Regaurdless of the line anyone who knows basketball and has watched this team through the years knows that the only way this team would be limited offensively to produce what they did on both ends of the ball is simply coaching. There are no more excuses the players are here.

If you disagree great, I can respect that but please tell me what your stance is based upon because it can't be anything but a man crush or a hunch.

So much for our wonderful fan base.. We play 30 games for a reason. Wait for the B4A, we'll make a come back.

Guys listen I am one of the most optimistic UT fans there is but my God if you can't call this hire a bust then I don't know how much you know basketball. Oh yea we will comeback just like last year and fall short of the dance and be NIT bound and get our program embarrassed if thats what you want keep downing your fan base for being realistic and live in fantasy land. We messed up with pearl its time to spend some money and make it right not make it safe.

If you're realistic, you'll realize that this game does not mean the season is doomed. Bad first game? Absolutely. Writing Zo off at this point? Unreasonable.

Unreasonable based on his body of work since his hiring at this university? How?

If you consider that he is capable of stringing a few wins together and that this is easily his most talented roster at UT, it's unreasonable to say this season is a wash at this point.

I get what you're saying, and I agree to an extent, but just keep it in perspective: first game of the season on the road. If we pile on a bunch of losses before SEC play, I guarantee the biggest Orange Ade drinkers will be ready to move on from Martin.

Trust me I know that you can't wash a season on a road opener but I expected alot more tonight and again I was disappointed like I have been for the past three years and this year there is no excuse to be a bad club. Matter o fact we should compete for the SEC and nothing in the past or tonight has indicated we will and that is just hard to swallow my friend.

No, but I think its unfair to judge the season off of one game, let alone the first one. Stokes misses more shots from 3 feet than any player in the history of basketball. Hard to blame coaching on that.

Boomer Herndon, Major Wingate, and Brian Williams would take issue with that statement.

Definitely fair :hi: I'm sure we're both cheering for the dudes in orange.

We were picked to finish 11th in the SEC his first year. Technically he has overachieved.

He's being judged on what Pearl did. Pearl did a lot more with a lot less his first year. We had Andre playing center and Dane playing the four.
