He's being judged on what Pearl did. Pearl did a lot more with a lot less his first year. We had Andre playing center and Dane playing the four.

I wouldn't say that I am judging him based on pearl because they are two different style coaches so it's kinda like apples to oranges. Needless to say it also makes it hard to judge people that are on two different levels.

With that being said as you mentioned it's hard to go from watching someone get alot out of a little to getting very little out of alot.

Martin doesn't seem to put much stock in offense early. It clearly didn't look like we ran many set plays or executed in the half court last night. We always play decent defense (even though our defense in the paint was hard to watch) I just really hate this. By the time we figure it out, we've already dropped a couple of games we had no business losing and then the ones we were picked to lose.

The Vols blew some open looks but Xavier knew who they had to target and who it had to try to force to take bad shots(ie maymon, mcrae, AB, RH3 and JR).

Mcrae was able to still do his thing and JR and AB hit some nice shots but other than that, the offense an defense looked flat and maybe even confused. There was a big problem with the cohesion of this team during last nights game and I think it should have been expected. There are many new faces on this team. If it gets corrected UT will be really good IMO.

Fresh legs and good conditioning = better free throws. If your tired, your going to miss free throws. I don't think that had anything to do with it last night. Xavier struggled from the line as well. Maybe in addition to changing a ton of rules, the NCAA also made the basket smaller

If you could rewind and ask most reasonable fans what they expected the first year, it wasn't much. Not so sure Pearl had a lot less, he had CJ and Lofton returning in the back court. Martins best returning player was Cam, that says it all. He overachieved greatly his first year. That being said, the time is now not seeing improvements in coaching year 3 is very worrisome.

Wouldn't practicing FTs be more productive than running suicides? I would think so.

That would be while practicing FT's. Round of FT's then 2 suicides. Another Round of FT's, another round of suicides.

We had to hit 70% (as a team) in middle school.

No, but I think its unfair to judge the season off of one game, let alone the first one. Stokes misses more shots from 3 feet than any player in the history of basketball. Hard to blame coaching on that.

But coaching can definitely help fix it.

Yup, pack it up boys. Season is over. And I just starting watching an hour ago.

N.I.T. invite!!

Will lose a game to at least one team that we have no business losing to UTEP or Morehead State or Tusculum or Citadel or USC UpState or Tennesse State University.

Will lose in the 1st round of the N.I.T.

Martin will get one more season to prove himself and will be fired after the 2015 season......

He will leave the roster bare for the next coach. No Stokes. Maymon & McRae graduate this season. Once things go south, Hubbs will go pro.

New coach will have to start over but we will have an immediate improvement even though the roster is bare, the new coach can motivate his players and can coach.

We have zero true shooters on this team, little if any self-confidence, and just like last year we played scared and conservative the first half and then it was too late. There is some talent on that floor but it is not being coached or brought out for some reason. Zero swagger. Our big boys should have eaten them for dinner and instead we can't even make a simple pull-up jumper. I thought the brick by brick thing was just for football?! this is year 3, no excuse. This loss will come back to haunt us big time.

Based on what? Please elaborate?

Our record in confrence
Our record against top 25 teams?
Our success in the Sec tourney
Our Succuess in making the tourney?
Our success in the NIT?

The bottom line is this fan base had no choice but to stay optomistic for this team that played tonight and it gave us absolutely zero reason to believe that the problem did not start and lie with cuonzo the last three years. Regaurdless of the line anyone who knows basketball and has watched this team through the years knows that the only way this team would be limited offensively to produce what they did on both ends of the ball is simply coaching. There are no more excuses the players are here.

If you disagree great, I can respect that but please tell me what your stance is based upon because it can't be anything but a man crush or a hunch.

Did you even read what my comment was in response to?

My problem is the sum of our team doesn't equal the parts. Each player on our team is a solid basketball player - but under performs as a team. ?? Why?? Honestly I thought we should have won by twenty against Xavier. Also it seems we never work the ball from the inside out - and that is basketball 101.

Giant doofy no name white boy > Stokes/Maymon

I was curious, so I looked up Stainbrook's recruiting profile. Since he outplayed Stokes (5*, #5 PF, #18 overall in his class, ESPN Grade 97) and Maymon (#27 PF, #79 overall in his class, ESPN Grade 91), I just wanted to see how the services had him ranked coming out of school.

Stainbrook had no ranking at all on Rivals, and he didn't even have a profile that I could find on Scout. As for the ESPN ranking for a comparison, he was ranked as the #121 C in his class, no overall class ranking, and an ESPN Grade of 70. He originally signed with Western Michigan and transferred over to Xavier.

There is plenty of season left, but this was not a talented team that beat UT, and the Vols are going to see much better interior players. I'm not on the fire Cuonzo bandwagon just yet, but I see why there is concern.
