Yeah, but can't you see, if true, how flakey that is that she would want to transfer because a girl two grades younger than isn't planning to go to North Carolina? It's bizarre actually.

Holly gets paid big bucks to make these sorts of decisions. She will have access to more information than we do. Certainly, should DeShields wish to come here there will be a lot riding on what Holly decides. We can either pick up a player that may put us over the top or one that ruins our chemistry.

Right now everyone is just speculating about her motives. It is probably wise to step back and remember how wrong all of the speculation was about Tucker when it looked like she was backing out of her commitment. We will know what we need to know soon enough. It would certainly take the sting out of missing on Wilson if we picked up DeShields.

Cooper's announcement will be televised, she's going to be on an episode of MTV's Documentary series True Life about her recruiting process. so if they're already done filming then that means she already made the announcement and knows where she's going but we won't know until the episode finally airs on TV and that could be sometime in June or July.

to go back over stories when she was a junior in high school and and Davis and changing high schools and DeShields not coming to TN because Davis had committed as a soph and then when she signed with UNC she made remarks about UT also being a favorite. and we wondered why because UNC never played defense and and

And then Flynn making remarks an interesting character on her choices, and of course our boarders are equally convinced of "why" she left and "where" she is going and. so its very clear that TN vol fans have been discussing that talented young lady for at least four solid years.

From little things I've been hearing it sounds like this decision is more about wanting to be closer to home than anything else. It also appears that as of right now, she's going to most likely end up at UGA or TENN.

Maria Cornelius, who seems to have an inside connection to the program but I can't tell you how, posted earlier "What as the reaction of fans of Lady Vols to new @ddshields23 wanted to transfer with a link to Pharrell Williams "Happy".

It seems to me this indicates she is coming to Tennessee. If not Tennessee, then it seems to me it would be UConn or SC...why would lady vols fans be happy in that case?

Trying to not get too excited but I can't logically square that comment with any other scenario.

Didn't NC have to drop some players or commits to accommodate Diamond and all of the players she wanted to bring with her?

Looking at SC's roster they have 11 players with eligibility left and signed 5 in this class which means they were already one over the limit if everyone came back. Mavunga would make two and DeShields, if she decides to go there, would be three. I am not sure if transfers count against the numbers during the year they sit out, but SC would have another year to free up slots if they did not count for the interim year.

This would all be pretty new and cut throat for women's basketball, where kids generally don't get run off in a wholesale fashion to make room for better players. I guess we will see where everyone ends up.

You gotta feel for Hatchell with everything she has been through this past year. But she opened herself up to this sort of thing by letting the players call the shots in recruiting. Holly's decision not to do the same when pressed by a couple of recruits in Russel's class looks to have been the wiser one.

I do feel bad for Hatchel. Just saw a piece on ESPN that South Carolina was not likely. Didn't know where she would go....but Tennessee would probably be her choice. Said her mother ran track at UT. We'll see.

Not so fast my friend. This doesn't have to do with what you're assuming it does. Mavunga is in SC with one of her UNC teammates, Gray. So, you might not want to go off spouting it means anything about a possible transfer.

Not getting hopes up but:

I think we should be positive in our comments and our attitude about her coming here.

Unless shes tells us we will only go on rumors as to why she is leaving.

Hope we don't go a trip down the why is she leaving, where is she going avenue.

Trust coaches to accept her if she asks to come and be happy.

As long as we treat her like any other transfer.

Not sure what it might do the team chemistry so I won't speculate.

I believe the media knows why DD is leaving. With that said if it was good news we most likely would hear about it. I also believe DD has contacted other coaches to see where she can go. Everything right now seems to be tight lipped. This is not something that has just happened. It is something that has been going on for quite sometime. IMO thats not positive. If it was I believe every top coach in WCBB would be vying for DD. As far as Tenn goes. Tenn has a very talented team at 6'6 6'3 6'2 6'2 and Massingale at the point and didnt win the conference championship. The problem with Tenn is not talent or top players the problem is team players. At the end of the season when Tenn was winning they were passing and cutting. When they lost they didnt. Tenn does not need DD to win they need to play team ball.

why she is leaving? If so, why don't you tell us? Or why doesn't the media? At first glance it seems very strange.

Originally Diamond was coming to UConn. It was definite. With her announcing shes transferring which was leaked out a few days ago before Wilson announced. I have to wonder where she will go. Certainly USC is a possibility as is UConn UGa and Tenn. I also have to wonder why is she leaving UNC after encouraging all those kids to come to UNC????? Tuff to figure out however I was shocked when she picked UNC after hearing she would go to UConn. Wait and see.

It was definite? Apparently it wasn't

Diamond was never "definitely coming to UConn". That's either horribly wrong information or it's a bald-faced lie.

I have a hard time believing it will be South Carolina. As Debbie Antoinelli said yesterday with ESPN, I am not sure where they are going to have room for her on the roster.

As for what South Carolina is selling it isn't that hard to understand. Dawn Staley is a Hall of Fame player, Olympian, has had success at all of her stops as a coach, and shes an African-American head coach--don't under estimate the desire for young, successful African-American players to want to play for someone who was in their shoes 20 years ago.

I agree that it is not wise to risk team chemistry; however, informed people will be taking into consideration the possible repercussions and outcomes if DeShields were to transfer to Tennessee. It might be reassuring to know that the team was prepared to embrace a special talent in A'ja Wilson had she chosen Tennessee, so the boat doesn't have to capsize to make room.

It might also be reassuring to know that the program has prospered from previous transfers into Tennessee although it doesn't happen very often. Patricia Roberts, Cindy Brogdon, Cindy Noble, Jill Rankin, and Michelle Marciniak all left their mark on the program. That's four Olympians and a national champion--not to mention countless victories, Final Fours, and plenty of chemistry.

I hope she chooses the Lady Vols she would make us a great team. We could use a go to player and she accepts the role and can score on the drive or hit the three. She was probably the best player in that class and would love to have her.

To me her talent outshines any other stuff. That can be worked on. I truly hope she joins the Lady Vols. Quite an upgrade at the 3 in 2015-16 from Burdick. I wonder if Nared can play the 4.

It aint no lie, I heard it with my own ears from a relative of hers. BTW I dont lie.

The board picked up a number of new members in the post-season and I am pleased to hear that at least one of them "don't lie."

If in a court of law TonyC was to ask evidence to be entered into the record. "I heard it from a relative who said for sure she was going to school x. and I don't lie." the response would be :whistling:

All kidding aside for nearly two years beginning with the USA teams she was highly visible and frequently seen in Knoxville, made front page news when she went to midnight madness at UCONN. AND never did UNC hit the rumor mill until one day it happened..

Rumors I hear its between UGA and Tenn. Before everybody gets all excited I think you should wait to find out why she is leaving. I did see games where she was not happy and was pouting. I She was sitting with Ivory Latta who was conforting her. I also remember something like the entire class committed almost at the same time. Now shes leaving. Gotta wonder why shes leaving now. One other point. She had UConn at the top of her list. They just won another NC and 40-0 this season and 46 in a row. Why is she not considering UConn?????

This is what I believe. I don't think UCONN is a factor because of distance (if she got homesick at UNC, what makes you think that won't happen 600 miles further from home?)

Georgia Tech is in her backyard but she won't consider them because Kaela Davis is there (she and DeShields made it clear in their HS days that they had no desire to be college teammates).

I hope that if she comes to UT that Warlick doesn't let her run the asylum...she's the kind of player who, while obviously immensely talented, could walk all over a coach if allowed to do so. She'll be a star anywhere she goes, but she wouldn't be the only star in Knoxville.
