TENNESSEE IS 6TH IN ATTENDANCE...
both articles are within the last week, we need about 20k against vandy to take back 5th...UH-OH

Vols not thinking beyond Ole Miss | The Leaf Chronicle – Clarksville, Tenn., and Fort Campbell | theleafchronicle.com

Attendance Slippage: The Vols are still on the outside looking in at the nation’s top five in attendance, averaging 17,116 per home game.

Wisconsin ranks fifth at 17,175 and has games remaining against Minnesota (Feb. 28) and Illinois (March 4).

UT has ranked in the top five in the nation in attendance the past six seasons and has home games remaining with Ole Miss (Wednesday) and Vanderbilt (March 3).

But it's also crunch time for the Vols in the race to maintain their status as a top-five school in national attendance.

UT currently ranks sixth, averaging 17,116 per home game to fifth-place Wisconsin's 17,175.

The Badgers have remaining home games against border states Minnesota and Illinois.

While Martin's top priority is to help lead the Vols to what would be a seventh-straight NCAA tournament appearance, he would also like to do his part to get UT a seventh-straight finish in the nation's top five in attendance.

Bingo. the ncaa site only goes to 2011, it doesnt show 2012. we were indeed 5th last year, we are not as of right now this year however.

Would be nice to see a complete updated list. I know Kentucky and Tennessee are in the to 10 but wonder how many other SEC teams are. I'd guess none.

i believe nobody else.

reason being because vandy only holds around 13k and florida i believe only holds around 12k. both of these teams sell out most of their games iirc, unfortunately for them they just dont have a bigger facility.

About as depressing as how empty TBA has been this year. But it is understandable since both teams are playing poorly

Losing does that to BB and football teams apathy sets in.

Surprised that Vandy hasn't built something larger.

just a guess, but in the last 20 years havent exactly been a big time basketball school.

then again, schools like Duke only sit around 10k, so it isnt all based on success either i suppose.

but yea, thats why UT and UK are the only 2 in the top 10, if UF and Vandy had bigger arenas they would be as well.

Fla has trouble selling their gym out even when they're good. There have been numerous empty seats this year and last year.

Candy's gym is just the right size for them. There are usually empty seats for every game except UT and Ky and the Preds being in town since '98 has hurt their attendance from the casual fan too.

Actually both Florida and vandy averaged a higher capacity % last year, and undoubtedly will again this year. Fwiw

That might be tickets sold, but Fla routinely has large blocks in the upper deck of the O-dome empty. Candy should sell out more than any other SEC team since they're in the largest city in the SEC. Too many outside interests competing for people's dollar and time nowadays.

Same for Tennessee though, we go by tickets sold, not people walking through the doors. If its used for one school you gotta use that theory for both.

Tennessee home games lately have included completely empty sections in the upper deck.

And fwiw candy averaged almost 98% capacity last year, that's as close to averaging a sell out that it gets.

Oh, I understand that. That is why the figure is skewed. UT's arena should've never been over 17-18K, but Dickey thought we could fill it up like Rupp.

USCjr should be elated that anyone even shows up to watch that abortion of a program. I'll be sad to see Horn go. That was as sure of a win that you could always count on. They'll get it right one day and become a pain in our ass.

TBA would be a much better arena if:

It was between 14-17k capacity
Student section was ONE sideline 1st 10 rows each section, with no chairs so they must stand

Unfortunately it's all about money and those 2 things will NEVER happen

Are you really comparing usc jrs home crowd to Tennessees? Tennessee averages over 17000 for home games, the worst home crowd that Ive seen at TBA this year was announced around 14000. Usc jrs arena probably couldn't hold the 17000 that Tennessee averages. What hurts TBA is that you can put 17000 fans in it and it still looks empty same goes for the Neyland. The pains of being bigger than ev erybody else. GBO!

Oh I know, some of the SEC gyms are a joke. We were just discussing the size of it in comparison to the attendance, and that we'd average close to sell out if it held 14-17k, instead of almost 22k.

Not sure how you got that I am comparing the crowds out of simply stating that I wish our arena was full. So the worst crowd you have seen was 14K which means about 10K in empty seats. So thanks for confirming my point. 1/3 empty arena is depressing to look at.

I am not being a negavol, but there is NOOOOO way we have had an average of 17K, esp at these SEC games. I do love how people jump the ship on this site though. All I stated on front page is that it is depressing to see how empty the arena is, which is a fact.

If someone on this site does not worship the vols with every post they get stamped as a negavol. I will stick to making valid statements instead of ignorant ones like members on this site.

I think the issue was this...you compared TBA having 17k out of 21k(capacity) in attendance being as depressing as south Carolina having 7k out of 18k(capacity) in attendance.

TBA averages around 85% capacity
SCjr was 38% capacity

That was the issue people had I think.
