WV Governor Justice tells Bette Midler to 'kiss' his dog's 'Hiney'

I always liked that John Denver song too... Country Roads. It's a better anthem than they deserve. The best thing which can be said about West Virginia? It's not Mississippi.
WV is way prettier than MS. Mississippi has way better music and food. But both sh*tholes in their own unique ways.

Hold up here. It was considered reprehensible when Trump referred to $hithole countries as $hithole countries. Sometimes the facts are the facts
same party allowed for their last two candidates to use the term “super predators” on the campaign trail in the past.

.... and of course, poor and fat go together like peanut butter and chocolate.

Most Obese States 2021

West Virginia has the 2nd highest rate of adult obesity at 39.7%.

Can't you imagine Virginia looking up at baby brother, West, and like Dean Wormer to Flounder in Animal House, taking off his reading glasses and giving him the lecture.

"Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son."
Quit fat shaming people. Your party has a rule about that.

First, I don't like Bette Midler.... but let's take a look at what she said relative to factual data. Midler said that West Virginia was "poor, illiterate and strung out."

POOR

Poorest States 2021

West Virginia comes in with the 2nd lowest median household income at $48,850, and a poverty rate of 17.54%. Also, West Virginia has the 2nd lowest life expectancy age of 74.8 years.

ILLITERATE

Least Educated States 2021

STRUNG OUT

Opioid Summaries by State | National Institute on Drug Abuse

* Far and away the highest opioid-involved overdose death rate is in West Virginia.

Top 10 US States with Drug Overdose Deaths

****************************

West Virginia's Governor can stick his bulldog's butt up in the air all he wants .... by any "quality-of-life" metric, his state is still a $hithole.

Just because other states have higher median household income that doesn't mean that WV is POOR, just because other states have higher achieved education doesn't mean WV is ILLITERATE, same for drug use.

Likewise the metrics you mentioned does not make a state a $hithole

I'd imagine the vast majority of WV residents love it; same as any other state.

In spite of all the bad things which can be accurately said about the state of West Virginia, WVU would have been a better fit in the SEC than Missouri.
What do you mean "can be accurately said"? Is that because they don't vote democrat as highly as they used to? So instead of acknowledging that your party has gone too far to the left your answer is to try to insult people who live there. Can you not take responsibility for your party's failure in that state?

I'm not sure if West Virginia would have been a better fit for the SEC or not. I think the Big 10 would have been a better fit since they have Maryland and Penn State. Or the ACC as that would have allowed them and Pitt to continue their rivalry. I honestly thought Virginia or Virginia Tech would have been better than Mizzou for the SEC.

West Virginia is at or near the bottom of ANY quality of life metric.

This Is the Most Miserable State in the U.S. — Best Life

^^^^ Guess Who It Is ? ^^^^

WEST VIRGINIA.

In these types of rankings, the worst places to live are always either Mississippi or West Virginia.

Unemployment Rate : 8.9%
Poverty Rate : 15.6%
Misery Index : 74.06 (the link explains how the Misery Index is calculated)

Now, on to more literacy-specific data (it seems that is what you want).

Literacy Statistics

U.S. Literacy Rates by State

Your comment about their opioid crisis doesn't make any sense. It's a very serious and very real problem for them. The quality of life in West Virginia is awful. Due to a lack of education and training, the people who live there, would have to live in squalor wherever they were. They choose to do it, close to where they were born.

Look at post #37. The post above this one. I'm not talking about how they vote. I'm talking about the people and the quality of life there.

Guess you better be making a trip to West Virginia and start doing some missionary work for your political party then.

No, thank you.
By the way. Based on literacy rate they have the 16th lowest in the U.S. per the article you attached. California and New York have the two lowest literacy rates in the U.S. Still 15 states are worse in that department than West Virginia.

And regarding your statement on squalor that is going to be in every state. Quit acting as if it's widespread in West Virginia when you have no proof that it is.

They have flipped Republican since about 2000. It got worse since 2012 when every county in the state swung Republican for Romney.

You are simply being an arrogant democrat and one way to make yourself feel better is by insulting people in another state who you feel are mostly different than you.

I just posted proof that it is.... with their high poverty rate.

California and New York face the problem of immigrants who came to the United States from non-English speaking countries. West Virginia has no such excuse. The people of West Virginia are simply inbred hillbillies who never went to school.

And you also posted a BS article from BestLife. What a joke. Try a more reliable source.

Inbred hillbillies huh? You democrats do like to throw out your insults. You are not going to convince anyone else to change their mind and vote democrat with your behavior.

You posted stats and West Virginia did not even have the lowest literacy rate in the country. Two democrat states - California and New York do. I bet the homeless rate and homeless population is higher in those states too. And one reason why their literacy rates and homeless rates are so high is because democrats are in charge of those 2 states.

There is nothing wrong with that source.

... and look, most "quality-of-life" lists are going to have West Virginia at or near the bottom. I'm sorry it hurts your feelings, but that is reality. If you want me to post more links to such lists, I can very easily find them and I will!

And you have been to West Virginia and talked to the people that live there? And yes that BestLife article you posted is a joke. I'm not saying they don't have their problems. They do. Every state does. Even California and New York obviously have their problems.

Generalize much? It’s not just immigrants that cause NY and Cali to have the biggest gap in wealth between classes in the country

No, it's not... but I can definitely post links to other sources that say the same damn thing!
