I have been for a GAMBIT Film ever since he wasn't in the original Singer X-Men film but they couldn't have found a real actor?

Channing Tatum to Play Gambit in Standalone X-MEN Film?

Channing Tatum to Play Gambit in Standalone X-MEN Film?

Gambit is a favorite character for a lot of X-Men fans. Unfortunately, the character was wasted in X-Men: Origins Wolverine when he was played by Taylor Kitsch. We heard rumors of a spinoff film for awhile, but that died down a long time ago. A standalone Gambit film is now back in the news thanks to X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner. In a recent interview with Empire, she says that Channing Tatum is on board to take on the lead role,

"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."

During a press conference last year Tatum said that he would like to play Gambit, but there was no hint that he was actually going to do it. This is what he said at the time,

“I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favourite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real.

No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.”

I've grown to enjoy Tatum's film work over the years, and I think he would actually be awesome as Gambit. If Donner is pushing this movie forward and putting pressure on the studio to do it, then I'm sure it will eventually happen.

For those that thought the Sentinels looked corny in early pics, it looks like we are going to see several versions of them throughout the timeline. I dare say that one toward the end of the trailer is Nimrod.

Is this Nimrod? Or just the average sentinel in the future?

Channing Tatum Confirmed to Play Gambit in Some X-Men Film

Channing Tatum Confirmed to Play Gambit in Some X-Men Film

Well, after months of rumors and speculation, it has been confirmed by X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner that Channing Tatum will indeed play Gambit in an upcoming X-Men film. Whether that will be a standalone film or X-Men: Apocalypse or some other X-Men film remains to be seen.

I think I might be the only one who likes this news. I really didn't care for Taylor Kitsch's portrayal of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. White House Down wasn't that good, but Tatum had such an easygoing and charming way of getting through chaos it convinced me he could play Gambit. He also seems to love Gambit as a character, and I'd rather have somebody who knows the source material play the character than somebody who knows nothing (I'm looking at you, Kate Mara).

The cool thing about the Sentinels being the villains in this is that X-Men can wreak havoc on a large scale. In 4 movies they've probably killed like 5 people. Obviously the Sentinels aren't people, but it's the closest thing to real carnage that we will see from the X-Men.

So those that have seen it without spoiling anything did they get the Sentinels right? A simple Yes or No??

At around 90% on rotten tomatoes so the critics are loving it.

Bama posted this in the other thread, but it and my response belong here for better discussion.

X-Men DOFP 7.53987/10

I have absolutely zero comic book background. Don't know the characters or the stories. My rating is entertainment value only.

However, if that's the story told in the comics, how the movie ends, pretty dang good imagination imo.

Post scene after credits makes no sense to me at all.

Spoiler. Highlight to read:

That is Apocalypse. It's a flashback to the past (he built the pyramids with telekinesis). He is the most ancient mutant, and still alive in the present (but no longer looks human). He will be the villain in the next movie. I see Magneto as more of an anti-hero, which is why I consider Apocalypse to be the best X-Men villain. Yes, I'm a big dork

BTW, I like Tatum, and I like Gambit, but I'm not so sure that's going to work out. He better start working on his Creole accent now. Gambit is a tough character to pull off, IMO, from a writing and acting perspective.

Personally I though Kitsch did fine playing Gambit, and he's a big enough name that it would have been a decent casting. I wasn't thrilled with the recast, there are enough recasts in multi-movie series' as it is, there's no point in doing one unnecessary and taking a chance with Tatum who, as much as I like the guy, isn't a strong actor to behind with.

I was wondering wtf was up with the end credit scene. I thought they where going into the past for the next one.

Gambit was the only good thing about Wolverine: Origins.

Solid movie that wipes the slate for the franchise. I feel like I need to see it again to soak it all in.

Without being too spoilery, I have a few nitpicky things like Kitty's reworked role in the story and the lack of an iconic image of future Wolverine getting roasted by a Sentinel, But I was able to role with it.

Quicksilver definitely stole the show. And I was hard on J Law for replacing Rebecca Romjin as Mystique but she actually brings real acting talent to the role.

If I were to rank the X-Men movies to date I would still put X2 at 1 and this one at 2.
