Yahoo Sports lowers the boom on Miami

Im not following this:
1) you strip the schollys from MiHammy Football
1a) Football players that are looking for schollys have to go somewhere else, or play for free.

2) You want to give the schollys to other sports at MiHammy?
2a) Joe Blow, who was the starting free safety would now be on a track scholly. . . . and would also play football.

Not going to work. Kids suffer everyday because of the actions of adults. My own kids suffer everyday because their mom didnt have better taste in men. (no pics)

Not redistribute the schollys, but the money that would have been used.

Just because it happens elsewhere doesn't mean it has to happen at Miami. They can at least have some positive out of this and give the scholarship money to non-revenue sports.

I guess if you assume the players are as guilty as Shapiro says, maybe. I don't know if an investigation was done, or if one was, what it found. It's a little early for the guilty until proven innocent talk though.

The NCAA hasn't said that any of the current players that were named in the article are inelgible, and they've been aware of the allegations for months now. The University hasn't suspended anyone yet.

Whoa. WHOOOOOOOOOA. WHeffingOA.

If they accept these gifts, the players ARE guilty. Just as guilty as the booster. As recruits, and then again as players, they are told what they can and cannot do while on recruiting visits, or what they can and cannot accept from boosters. Some recruits do not get this message, but ALL NCAA ATHLETES get this message. If they choose to listen to it.

I used to work for a Big Ten school as a scout. (not the school I attended) and had a healthy dose of things to read that told me what I could and couldnt say to a kid. (I could say HI, how are you, and that was basically it)

I also have the label of "booster" because my daughter is close friends with a couple kids that I brought to the attention of, and were heavily recruited by my school.

These kids have meetings, they have paperwork they sign, they have it all in front of them about what they can and cannot do. Some just choose to ignore it.

Both players, incidently, cleared by the NCAA this morning.

I did not realize this much had occurred on these accusations, already. Thanks for the info and I'll have to go look up some stuff on that part of it.

Do you know whether this stuff was discussed with the new coach when he was hired?

Let me put it a different way. I guess if you assume that Nevin Shapiro, two time convicted felon and ponzi schemer is telling the truth, then you sit the kids. If the kids accepted this stuff, they're guilty, but some of the recent players are coming out and saying they've never been around this guy. Something doesn't add up.

Shapiro has at least some corroboration for his dealings with pretty much every player.

I agree that Shapiro has credibility problems. I was given to believe, however, that there were a number of corroborating witnesses with no axe to grind, as well as documents.

This stuff was NOT discussed with Golden when he was hired, nor was is discussed with Larranaga (bball). This makes me furious. Bush league cop-out by Donna Shalala.

I have no idea if Eichorst, new AD, was told prior to accepting the job either.

I'm not sure that's the case. Again, there is a breakdown on YahooSports by player and what they're accused of. I haven't had time to go through that yet.

I can't say I've read all 72, but most of the ones I looked at had a corroborating witness if not some kind of paper trail.

If Im the NCAA (and/or MiHammy), the first thing I do is protect the kids. I gather them together and say this: "say nothing publicly, admit to nothing publicly, but you damn sure better tell me the truth when I ask it.

but the fact is this: these kids are not going to tell the truth about this while their playing careers are on the line.

I realize that and in Charlse's case he went to Georgia anyway. what I am saying is that Shannon knew this stuff was going on here,,,, It appears many on the staff brought players over there personally. this staff who I actually thought (had a perception of) was running a clean program were really neck deep in the booster thing. And this booster thing is way worse than most i am aware of.
i know its the City of Miami and things are ummm progressive ,,, but dang!

I didn't see anything in the article insinuating that Shannon knew anything. In fact, Shannon hated this dude's guts and did what he could to keep him away from his players.
