Many, not sure why that is hard for you to understand. Not sure about a percentage but I would say millions either commit acts, ok with or refuse to condemn acts of terrorism.

You seem to have done your research. Was it comprised of gs vol posts?

Pick a percentage (ballpark) to qualify your vague terms. Or, shut up.

If 50,000,000 Muslims were either terrorist or were complicit in acts of terror, that would register at less than 5%. I would not use the term "many" referring to such a group.

You don't consider 50,000,000 many?

Maybe you confuse most and many.

Wrong. "Many" still constitutes a sizeable amount of a particular group. If you want to play by your own rules, though, many American Christians are homicidal bigots. Heck, it is more than I can count on my two hands.

They aren't Christian - they use religion as an excuse to hate people. But ya.

How does the far right on these issues square their thinking with the fact that the first U.S. soldier injured in Iraq is gay?

Guy lost his right leg when he stepped on a land mine on the first day of the Iraq war.

Must have been God - cause God is tyrannical and unforgiving.

You are wrong as usual, if we use your number of 50,000,000 no matter what the percentage of the total population that is, it's still many. You just want any excuse you can find to defend terrorists Muslims and bash American Christians who aren't killing people in the name of their "religion"

If you want to debate semantics and philology, have at it. "Many" and "large" are relative terms and only have meaning when the context of the subject matter is given. 50M relative to 1.2B is a tiny number. Thanks for playing.

As someone on the right, if someone wants to be gay, fine with me. I am against it but people are free to make that choice and I love living in a country where people can be gay if they so choose, unlike some others. I am not for and would not hurt anyone because they are gay, that would be wrong for anyone to do that. On gay marriage I am against it, if it came up on the ballot here for a vote I would vote against gay marriage, however if the people of a state voted to allow gay marriage that is fine with me.

I find it interesting that many are citing Biblical references showing that Homosexuality and "homo-sex" is a sin, when they seem to ignore the fact that the Bible states sex (Straight included) outside of marriage is a sin.

If you are going to quote it, live by it. All of it.

I am not surprised you can't understand that 50,000,000 is many.

According to your delusional lexicon, many Americans are Muslims. Therefore, according to your beliefs, many Americans are terrorists.

That is called logical deduction.

I'm not so sure of this though I suppose if you're arguing from context it could be.

There is nothing about "many" that requires a comparison group. 50,000,000 "anythings" is many anythings. The number of visible stars in the sky to the naked eye, under even very good conditions, is (IIRC) less than 3,000. This is a tiny number compared to the actual number of stars visible from earth with enhanced optics, nevermind the "actual" number of stars there are out there. That doesn't mean walking out on a clear, dark night wouldn't allow you to see "many" stars.

Now if the use of "many" carries an implication as to "how many" as a matter of proportion then that's a bit different. I believe it's this latter point you were making but I'm just pointing out even if 50 million somethings is nowhere near a majority of said somethings...well, that's still a lot of somethings.

From a philological standpoint, your post is inaccurate at best. A variety of great products from the Oxford University Press cover the use of "many".
