Yeah USCe looks like a real juggernaut

You can't let the results of one game determine the outcome of the next. After watching GA and LSU last week I thought we were going to get mauled this week. Not saying we can't beat USC but we're a LONG way from being able to take them lightly!

They knew they were playing Kentucky, and they weren't up for the game. They still managed to pull it out. It's no different than why UT looked so bad against USA and then almost beat Georgia. You can't be at the top of your game for every game.

No one in the SEC is up for Kentucky unless it's basketball season.
. I don't think UT looked bad against SA..It seemed to me that after halftime and the third quarter scoring drive, the team (especially the defense), saw the scoreboard and thought it was over and hit cruise control..unfortunately I think that mindset affected the offense as well.

I don't think any team in the nation would take SCe lightly. People were saying GA was due for a letdown and I think they were emotionally spent coming to Knoxville. I think we have a better chance of beating the cocks as long as the hogs don't whip em. Hopefully Spurrier will have a couple of jack and colas on the golf course before the game.

USCe is terrible in the second half.

no idea what it is but they just give up. they struggled against vandy in the second half as well.

if we play with the maxims and put on speed if breaks dont at first go our way then we will win.

Spurrier is not very high on his own team. Not sure what it is but they have been lucky that they only played UCF, Vandy and UK the past three weeks.

I was proud of the effort against Georgia, but don't under estimate a Steve Spurrier coached S. Carolina team. I do think we have a chance, but the odds are certainally against us, we would have to play errorless ball to win. I would love to get rid of the 0-19 record against ranked teams, but I'm not sure it will happen just yet.

Whatever you do, don't sell spurrier short. He hates UT. He will get his team up for the game. If UT can play against the gamecocks like tonight, that may be the game when we turn the corner. Of all the coaches I like to beat, it is probably spurrier.

He hates UGA worse....

This time of year every SEC team is making strides and improving, including Kentucky. We've got our work cut out for us to win a couple of SEC games this year.

I think that South Carolina is overrated and has been all year. I know everyone was scared to death of Clowney coming into the season but how many times have we seen a player have a breakout season and then have a mediocre one the next because people figure out how to deal with them.

The only good team they have played so far was Georgia and they haven't really played lights out against the teams they should have killed if they were as good as advertised. We have played against 3 good teams and all 3 were different in how they beat you.

South Carolina had better not underestimate this team, especially after the way they played against Georgia.

Spurrier is to the Vols what Lex Luther is to Superman.

It is sad that we are down to calling uscjr a big win if we beat them. that shows how far we have fallen. though i am still considered insane because i believe we can beat bammer in tuscalosser.

Clowney declined to play tonight and Spurrier sounded pretty unhappy. Sounds like someone thinks he's bigger than the team.

Shaw and Mike Davis are great, but their defense (surprisingly, I might add) leaves so much to be desired. If Second Half Justin Worley continues, Tennessee has a great chance.

Yep, saw this! They may be falling apart. Perfect Storm for a VOLS victory over a ranked opponent in Neyland!

As someone skeptical of Butch Jones, I'm heartened that the team played much better. But at the same time, if they go out and lay an egg in 2 weeks, all the progress they made the last few weeks goes down the toilet. They need another good performance against SC.

it doesnt show how far we have fallen as much as it shows how much scar has improved. even if we were a top 5 team, beating a #13 south carolina team would still be a big win.

End that darn losing streak.

The losing streaks are over vols win, vols win beating a ranked top 25 team, and end 3 game losing streak to gamecocks.

And the last time we beat a top 25 it was the gamecocks in 2009 at home.

Well we really didn't go toe to toe with Uga. They were missing several toes.. I am proud of the way our guys fought though!

So I guess all the guys we had injured, all of the freshman and young players mean nothing? You make it sound like we had a senior squad full of experienced players. Yes thy had injuries but they still had a starting WR, a fifth year senior QB and their defense.

John Brice of Volquest.com made an interesting observation about South Carolina on the Butch Jones Show today. He pointed out that the Chicken Nation has struggled mightily on defense in the fourth quarter, therein surrendering copious amounts of points. This undoubtedly will not be lost on Butch Jones' coaching staff. Look for them to really push the tempo in the fourth quarter and try to wear out the Gamecocks with their physicality and conditioning.

south carolina has a bunch of problems on defense--clowney has quit on the season to get ready for the nfl---UT can outscore them and win by 10+.

Shaw may be healthy enough to play against us in 2 weeks but if he gets hit a few times he will be prone to being injured all over again.

Their D is pretty much Clowney. I remember one of the preseason mags said that South Carolina had the 2nd worst LB corps in the SEC this year, only ahead of Kentucky's.

I am pretty convinced...they struggled against KENTUCKY with him out. 24 points to the Wildcats....licking my chops. :)

But your post maks me wonder if he's doing this to be fresh for the Tiny-Jav II rematch.

Seriously doubt it. They have a game with Arky between now and us, and Clowney has taken himself out for a few plays of almost every game this year.

Sounds like USCe has their Kelly Washington 2.0. On the other hand, can't say I fault the guy. He likely saw what happened to Lattimore and what it cost him so wants to avoid the same. When you've come from nothing or almost nothing and have a chance to have a serious financial future, it makes sense to protect that best way you can.
