I will say I was not happy at all Friday morning when word came out that Butch was hired, but I didn't know anything about him except he was the coach at Cincinnati.I then started to do some research and watched some videos on YouTube.I started to really like this guy,and thought he handled the Presser well and said a lot of things I liked.I think he could do a good job here.Alot better than Dooley. So as fans lets UNITE behind Coach Jones and bring Tennessee Football back where it belongs. Go Vols!

You do realize that he ran the ball at Cincy more than he threw it right?

2012: 346 pass vs. 464 run
2011: 392 pass vs. 500 run
Before you quote stats be prepared to back them up.
You're either a Vol Fan or you're not. No twinners. Time to ride the Jones Train or hit the bricks.:w00t::w00t:

Again, you do not know what you are talking about, he will work with the players he has to work the scheme around them, yes he has had smaller RBs at CMU and UC so he was forced to scheme a spread running attack, but grab Derrick Green, and keep Jay Graham, and the running game will not be a problem in the future (even w/o green, as long as we keep graham)

You don't run his offense with 6-6 330 lb lineman. Not one if his lineman were over 300 lbs at UC. Read-option is run pass balance, that's why it works. Still doesnt mean its physical game style. Oregon runs a lot too, had a RB in the Heisman running last year, they aren't physical. They're fast and up tempo.

This was not a great hire, it was a botched coaching search. Jones wasn't even in Hart's top five when the search began. Maybe we'll get lucky and CBJ will come in and turn things around, but it's extremely premature to call it a great hire. Will you be saying the same thing three years from now if his record is as abyssmal as Dooley's?

And once more, can we please stop confusing the coach and the football team? I want what's best for the Vols, not Butch Jones. A coach is not the team. If so, we all stopped being fans at some point a long time ago because Dooley wasn't the first coach to get canned. Get over this "you have to support the coach or you aren't a VFL" nonsense. When the coach is the problem, you fire him and get a new coach. Now it's a wait and see on what CBJ can do.

OP, maybe you like having things shoved up your rectum, but I don't, so you can shove it in yourself.

I of course hope Jones succeeds, and he's a coach with promise. But unlike the coach from Wisconsin who's now at Arky, Jones is taking a HUGE step up in class. He's not worth $3 million, that's for sure. Maybe you pay that to the Wisconsin coach--who's from a much bigger league and been to three straight Rose Bowls, but not to a guy who's just coached three years at Cincy. So we are way overpaying this cat at $3 million. Hell, what was Saban's starting salary at bama--$4, i think--and he'd been the head coach at Michigan State, LSU, won a national title and been an NFL head coach!

If (IF!) we need to hire a new coach in three years I certainly hope to never hear anyone mention gruden then. He was given three bites at the apple and that is enough! He AIN'T the only coach in the world. Having said that I am all for this hire.

Yes, that Cinny team is a great running team. That is how they beat us,,,,,,oh wait a minute let think about this,,,hum,,

eah and i bet ou were one of the people that wanted Charlie Strong. Well Butch Jones team was 2-1 vs Charlie Strong's team. Cinn. lost in ot this year. And oh by the way Butch Jones team beat Vandy in a bowl game last year while we wear at home.

I don't dislike the guy but I am not jumping on board as of yet. I'm curious as to how the players react to him ad well as their thoughts after a few months. If they buy into butchy then I will be sold. Problem is I will never hear the truth straight from the players if they don't like him. If he throws a big win at us next year and shows he has control of the team as well as the games then I will jump on ....but until then I'm in a holding pattern.

It matters not what he does for the next five years at least.... UT has hitched its wagon to Butch Jones for better or for worse. We can't afford to fire him so the best thing to do is get behind him and this team. I was none too happy this morning but after checking and educating myself a little I'm warming up to Jones, ever so slightly. We'll know a bit more come February and by the end of next October we should have a much better idea what we have in Butch. I will withhold final judgement until this time next year.

you say that but on ESPN radio they were more impressed with Jones than they were with Bellema or what ever his name is. They were talking about he was doing good while Alvarezs players were still there.Said Tn got the better coach out of the 3 schools and thats including the great Malzahn.I heard this several times today on different sports shows. I wasnt a fan of this hire but the more you hear about him and what tv and radio people are saying, I guess it could of been worse.

I agree. That is what I mean by being behind this hire. Noone knows how this will play out but I like our chances to keep this coach for a few years. I think we all need a break.

he SPECIFICALLY stated he wants to have a PHYSICAL offense

I think some folks are confusing the word spread. All the "spread" is, is an offensive formation...not an offense. Getting bodies out of the box, spreading them out. No reason why you can't have a power run game out of that formation. Bama does fine in the formation..single back, spread out and create running lanes. I see a lot of people associating a mobile qb as a must have to run a "spread". Sure, if you want to run a lot of zone read and options out of the spread formation then a mobile qb would be better, Ohio State for example. I haven't seen the presser yet, just got home so don't know if CBJ mentioned what type of offense he is planning on but I bet that his decision will be based on UT's roster. IF Bray stays, you would be mistaken to think he wouldn't start and you can also omit any zone reads or any options out of the spread being implemented in his offense.

I am not big on the hire and am curious about the presser but there is no doubt that the man can coach. I will wait and keep an open mind to see how well he recruits in the South and how he assembles a staff, especially on the defense

Urban Meyer used what he had at Florida and again this year at Ohio State.. The good coaches will do what it takes to win games.. They don't try the square peg round hole deal.. You end up like Sal did this year..
