Your favorite movie

Why whatever do you mean? All of the movies I mentioned are thought provoking and enlightening in so many ways. You must be talking about Shawshank. I mean, Tommy Boy is one of the most inspirational movies ever! (note, I'm probably going to be making Tommy Boy quotes the rest of the day. Unfortunately, most people in my unit are too young to know the glory of Chris Farley)

Obviously several of us exist. You being such a stat geek should know that. Then again, I can understand you not getting it.

OMG, the advancement in cinematography was incredible. That doesn't change the fact that the movie is unwatchable today. The story and the finale with "buttercup" was so stupid. I appreciate what the movie did for film-making, but it's boring as hell. Movie snobs only pretend to like it and then they can hurl around condescending comments like that.

What's funny is my Mormon friends here in Utah use that joke on me for being from Tennessee.

They're Mormons for goodness sake. They believe in the magic plates, special underwear and interceding for the dead.

Man....I'm gonna find this and watch it right now.

I hated commodus.

Great movie. Long, but great.

Makes me think of Braveheart and Braveheart makes me think of The Patriot. I love The Patriot.

What was the question?

For the genius of story telling, I'd have to say Forest Gump.

For the gorgeousness of cinematography I'd have to say What Dreams May Come. Visually spectacular.

For the pure pleasure and enjoyment I get from watching it, I'd have to say A Few Good Men.

It may not be the best, per se, but my favorite is No Country for Old Men.

Post of the year?

Pretty good, but maybe a little ignorant? Catholics and many Christians believe in interceding for the dead. What else would you call praying for those that have passed?

It's also cheap parlor tricks. You can make any religion look crazy by saying the word "magic". Magic bath = baptism. Magic meal = sacrament. All these rituals are extremely weird to non-Christians. But that doesn't stop people from accepting Christianity as normal and dismissing less common practices as "weird" or "crazy". To me it's all weird.

No they don't. It's a goofy Mormon notion that I can intercede on the behalf of the deceased to earn them something they couldn't.

I'll admit that I'm ignorant on Mormonism because it's so goofy that I haven't spent much time with it, but I'm very well aware of most of the others.

Praying for the dead is interceding. You may think the way Mormons intercede for the dead is weird*, but Christians have been interceding for the dead for a long time.

2 Timothy 1:16-18 is believed by many to be a prayer for the dead. As was already mentioned it's common practice for Catholics, and in general praying for the dead is not considered a "weird" notion by any person of faith.

"Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?" - Corinthians 15:29
