I’ve been reading a Grizzlies forum, and I’d say roughly 60% of the people on that board think the Grizzlies have a shot at the playoffs next year and should spend a bunch of long term money in free agency this year in order to do so.

Yes. Some wild opinions.

My general feeling is fans of NBA teams - in the south specifically - cant really understand the strategy of tanking or being non competitive because we’re all geared to think of sports in terms of college football.

But not that much room under the tax, right?

Maybe I don’t fully understand trade exceptions, but I think it just means you don’t have to match salary in a trade. Not that it doesn’t count against your cap/tax.

Here’s an explainer on now acquiring Tobias works.

Obviously we all love Tobias so this would be really cool.

Despite the article I posted saying they could do this while also re-signing JV, I see it more as an either/or proposition. Don’t see the point in spending big on both - and would much prefer Tobias.

For sure. Someone like Robin Lopez with a portion of the MLE makes more sense than $16M for JV to me.

I wouldn’t be against front loading a 4 yr JV deal assuming we can’t make better use of the money this year
