Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

It was painfully obvious to everyone but Lionel that the team was better without rudy

Rudy was good the year before (11-12) but the rumors of being dealt (due to salary) that entire offseason probably led to the decline in play in the 12-13 season. He was too mentally weak to deal with the criticism that he was receiving....

My concerns still remain how Pera will react this time when faced with luxury tax concerns (once Bane gets paid)....

He was maybe kind of good in like 2008. He was never actually good.

Ja for KD
Brooks expiring for Conley

Still could have kept all the worthless guys we’ve drafted and all the worthless picks we’ll blow

Hoist trophy

But 12-13 is why you won't see a major move today. When a team last had some type of window, Pera traded the team's best shooter, a 1st rounder, the team's best reserve big, and Rudy Gay for Jon Leuer, a washed up Tayshaun, and to avoid the luxury tax....

This makes no sense. The team got undeniably better. Literally zero leg to stand on re: Pera

The Rudy Gay trade was needed to help the team run its offense through Zbo and Marc. Even if it was a salary dump, the team improved.

The speights/Ellington trade for Leuer was inexcusable

.
The Rudy trade was made for salary reasons, pure and simple. It was speculated from the day that Pera bought the team. The basketball event that occurred as a result of the dump was Conley and Gasol taking the next step up. Jason Levien sure in the hell wasn't smart enough to know that was going to happen....

It's an unexpected development for me. Rudy Gay being paid as a star when he wasn't really one just because "we had to do it" was a low point for me as a fan.

Giving Rudy Gay the max when he was a restricted free agent was dumb as hell.....

If you wanted to keep him, you could have matched what the market told you he was worrh

It’s not a salary dump when you are improving the team.

The F.O. had no intention or foresight that it would make the team better. Levien and Wallace were told to cut payroll. If you think Levien or Wallace were that bright, you haven't paid attention.

It was dumb luck that Gasol and Conley took next step up and pure luck that Blake and Westbrook got hurt...

Lol. You can type as much as you want. I’m not engaging on you being wrong a decade ago.
