Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

Morant is an idiot. Like dude, you’re a multimillionaire and it’s the off-season. Go to Cancun ffs. Who on earth are you trying to impress on instagram live?

Also, I really thought the gangster-wannabe lifestyle fell out of popularity like 10+ years ago. But that may just be me getting older idk.
All for 111 views lol

I think this is a one-off

I might agree if this wasn’t the second such incident in the span of months. I think he legit just wants to look “cool”. Dude’s not even from the hood. From all accounts, he grew up with middle class parents in small town South Carolina. Why put on that front now after you’ve “made it”? That video gave me legit cringy late 2000s high school vibes.

I'm saying Ja is a one-off. Meaning most NBA players do not want to play at wannabe gangster like this. It did fall out of popularity.

Suspension should and likely will be a meaningful amount of games. He probably has minimal trade value but I wouldn’t mind never seeing him in a Grizz uni again

What are we thinking? I don't see a full season. This particular incident probably isn't bad to merit that. I could see a half season though.

For what it's worth, I'm still not in favor of trading him unless we get something meaningful in return (of course, that won't happen right now). I fully admit I have no interest in seeing his "feel good, redemption story" being part of some big market team's title run.

Does he have an entourage of guys who did come from that background, and they make him feel guilty/jealous that he did not? His behavior is just completely stupid and illogical.

The most recent IG live video in particular is something that a punk 14-year-old kid does, not a 23-year-old professional basketball player who just got paid.

I asked myself this hypothetical today. Can the Grizz build a title contender around JJJ and Bane?

What Ja would command in return wouldn’t be another superstar. What he can bring is a group of complimentary players to surround JJJ and Bane and deepen the bench. Everyone knows besides Tyus and Kennard, the bench is an achilles heel for the Grizz.

Boston has this model surrounding Tatum and Brown with a cast of complimentary players and a deep bench. IMO, JJJ can flourish with the offense running through him. Bane can be a near 25 ppg player, given the number of touches.

The Grizz 99.9% won’t consider it. Ja is still seen as too important to the future plans. But if it was me, I’d cut my losses while I still can. The baggage and the 1 possible career altering injury is in the back of my mind.

I could roll with Tyus, Bane, JJJ, and a good SF that plays defense. Adams, he’s vital to Ja’s game but not sure with this lineup.

You might be able to swap him for another distressed asset. None of the guys* on the horizon are very enticing, but this group is constantly in flux.

*Ayton, KAT, Beal, Trae, Lavine, Zion, Simmons, and not distressed, but Dame may be available and some of you guys would be thrilled with him ; )

Adam Silver will make an example out of Ja he has been warned from previous issue with gun, looking at 25 game or half a season suspension should be whole year.

A whole year would be absurd. Half a season would also be absurd to me. This didn't occur on team facilities nor did it involve a threat to a player/employee which is the only precedent for that length of a suspension.

Yeah. "Bad optics" isn't really a good enough justification for missing 50 games.

25 game min imo

What he did wasn’t necessarily a huge deal but on the heels of all the other dumbass things airing publicly, it’s even more alarming. It’s a blatant disregard for the organization, his teammates, the nba, the nbpa and quite frankly himself.

I would personally suspend him without pay for a season but I understand that won’t happen

They're in a tough spot. About the furthest you can reasonably go with a "you made us look bad" suspension is probably 8-10 games, but he's already served that and clearly didn't learn anything. I don't see how they can justify something like a 25-30 or even 15 game suspension. Not on team grounds, not threatening anybody, didn't hurt anybody. Jermaine O'Neal didn't even get 20 games for his role in the Malice at the Palace.

They will do everything to protect the brand, flashing a gun even though on your time isn't representing the league, just like NFL it's about the Logo,a few experts or so called experts on TV today stated Ja will not change until he gets rid of his friends but who knows

When your teammates are sick of your ****, you have a serious problem.

In Jermaine's defense, he wasn't a trouble-maker as I recall, and people came onto the court looking to fight and he fought back. The penalty was pretty harsh, IMO.

Ja's biggest sins are that this is not the first time and it's completely, inexcusably stupid.

Real gangsters don't drive around bumping music and waving a gun. Nobody thinks this is cool except for people who aren't cool. On the most basic level, what are you even doing? - paraphrasing Raja Bell

Hot take...the fact that this wasn't meant for IG makes it even dumber, IMO. People intentionally put dumbass personas on social all the time. This was just for him and his bros in the car cause they think it's rad.
