Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

National media and NBA fans for the last week: Wow, Brooks is such a moron, terrible play and he won’t shut his mouht

Memphis: Brooks won’t be back

National media and NBA fans: Wow, Memphis is being so mean to Brooks.

The F.O. is trying to scapegoat DB to cover up the huge screw ups they've had the last 2 years.

Unlike how the hacks at GCM are trying to spin it now, @TBrown is right. Kleiman is the source. They now realize they might have gone too far with trashing Dillon (i.e. losing free agency negotiating leverage, poisoning the well with players that Brooks' agent represents)

As much as I like fueling the drama, are we sure they went too far? We're not even reacting to a direct quote, as far as I know.

Although players may not like it, this isn't even enough to be a tie-breaker for somebody choosing a FA destination.

Considering that Shams reported it, it's from someone in the organization. Shams ain't reporting it unless he has the blessing of the org.

It's a better look (and gives you more leverage) if you just say nothing. You only let this quote out there if you want to distract from your recent roster building mistakes....

I'm glad DB is moving on. Those that are local know ZK gives off an "I'm smarter than you" vibe and they get real prickly when people question their choices.

It’s not as though they publicly blamed him for all the teams shortcomings. Anyways, Brooks was the butt of every joke before this news even came out. There was always going to be a massive pile on.

Any decent early off-season rumors? I’ve seen some commercial appeal headlines and daily memphian (?) but I don’t subscribe to any of that stuff.

CA pull:

Tyus Jones has been great for the Grizzlies, but the value of the backup point guard position doesn't compare to a starting small forward. Jones will play next season on the final year of a two-year deal worth $29 million. The Grizzlies could get a cheaper option at backup point guard, and that should be worth going after wings like Dorian Finney-Smith, Royce O'Neale and OG Anunoby.

Memphis has built its frontcourt depth with Santi Aldama and Jackson getting minutes at center, too, so unloading one of the contracts between Clarke and Adams could help Memphis get a starting forward.

With John Konchar and Luke Kennard likely to factor into the rotation, there won't be enough minutes to go around for Ziaire Williams, Roddy and Jake LaRavia in addition to an added small forward through free agency.

Tyus = very important regular season player. Not important postseason player. Hard to juggle that value proposition with an injury prone knucklehead starting in front of him.

Offloading brandon clarke will not be popular but would be paramount. I don’t see how that happens with a torn Achilles though.

I think it would be wise to use him as a piece to upgrade at the wing position. I’m not confident that he returns to form and he won’t be available next season. Get value while you can.

What the hell did I ever do to you

In his recent roundup of NBA news and rumors, longtime NBA insider Marc Stein notes that “Detroit has been mentioned to me more than once as a team to watch in terms of potential suitors for unrestricted free agent-to-be Dillon Brooks.”

I don’t see how he has any value. I think you’d have to attach assets to his contact to even be able to move him

He’d be part of a bigger package to land the wing they covet. Draft picks, Zaire, Tyus
What I’m trying to say is that I actually think he currently has negative value. We would have to attach draft picks, Tyus, etc. to trade him for nothing in return but salary relief.
