Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

This .. wait til he’s there. If so, do it 100x over.

You really think Kleiman gonna admit he made a mistake by overpaying for Smart?

LaRavia and Ziaire are still on the roster and we had to deal with Justise for 2 seasons....

Kleiman is caught in a tough spot. He needs to make sure he has a high end backup PG, another shooter not named Bane, a starting 5, end of rotation 5, and has to cut some salary to avoid luxury tax (although the Adams and Roddy salary dumps got us close there). He doesn't admit mistakes.

If you trade Smart, you now need a backup PG. And no, not Rose or Pippen (although OK with Pippen as 3rd option)

If you decline/trade Kennard, you are light on shooting

If you pick 9, we will roll with the Jaren/Santi/Clarke big rotation and get massacred on the boards again.

Smart can’t play point guard or shoot. He was a total failure and washed up.

Moving off the smart contract has to be priority A. Moving up in the draft and making a dent in the C rotation is just icing on the cake.

Simmons, J Kyle Mann, and KOC were all against trading Smart for #3. Simmons has no idea on draft stuff (he does know Smart, tho), but I like the other 2 guys on the draft.

Not sure how that benefits you. He only makes $20m which would not put you below the cap and he's off the books in 2 years, so he's not going to interfere with re-signing anybody else. Trading him for a draft pick would save ownership $ but the team can't use that salary now. You would hopefully be using Smart's salary to get a decent size contract back.

I put money down on DK for the Grizz to draft Edey at 9.

I doubt a trade happens, and if the Grizz stay put, they’ll draft for need, IMO.

We need to pay $20mn to someone who doesn’t suck

I'm saying the only way to do that is to trade him for that other player. If you trade him to improve your draft pick, your team saves like $16m of the $20m you're spending on him, but you can't spend it on anybody else because you'd still be over the cap this year and next.

Edit: not next year. You'd have some $ in FA.
