Is this thread the only safe space on here to mention Zach Edey and have a somewhat rational discussion? I was devastated when the Grizz took him but he's now one of my favorite players on the team.

Depends on your definition of rational. He’s not the guy everyone wanted but don’t think there’s just pure hate here either.

I think for most, taking Edey wasn’t the problem. It was taking him #9. He could have been drafted later in the round and the Grizz could have received an additional asset like a 2nd rounder to move back and draft him in the 15-20 range and pay him less money.

Edey is an asset in some matchups. There’s some that he’s a total mismatch. But having a 7’4 guy on the roster that can rebound ain’t bad to have. He’s not asked to score like he was at Purdue.

The Vol fans angry about the Grizz drafting Edey are delusional. The Grizz have drafted and signed several Vols in the past decade: Stokes, Pons, and Chandler.

It was more about fellow Vol fans who are convinced he was not an NBA player in any capacity. Most of them don't watch the NBA. They tend to rope in Knecht into the discussion too even when it is not relevant

It is/was relevant in so much as both were available at 9. There’s no going back, though.

Edey is a solid 20-25 minutes guy. Most here felt that was not enough to be taken at 9.
