Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

Surprising given how opposite Butler is from Grizz team culture. Granted, he would provide a wealth of playoff experience and another key person to get a bucket. Feel like it would be a bit congested on offense, but we'd have 40 games to figure it out.

We're in our playoff window, with the core 3's contracts. Need to make something happen in next 2-3 years...and if we're only looking for Jimmy to be here the next 2 years, he would be an asset for our playoff run. I guess.

BC - Don't know how much he continues to fit in the new scheme, unfortunately.
Luke - 3s have been replaced by Wells (& Slaw, Santi, Huff, etc.). Plus the others play defense.
Jitty - respect to the mastadon, but he's not really helping our playoff chances.
Smart - 20M for 20/82 (24%) of our games last year and 18/36 (50%) this year. When he has played, we've mostly wanted him back on the bench.

Can't see us trading Des. Would be surprised to see Santi go either, with how much he's thrived this year. Plus, cheaper contract vs his output.

Come playoffs, we'd have a pretty solid top 10/11 (1-ja/2-trip/3-des/4-jimmy/5-edey/6-santi/7-vwj/8-spj/9-gg/10-wells/11-jake). Huff would be sitting at 12.

Rk Salary
1 Ja Morant $36,725,670
2 Desmond Bane $34,005,250
3 Jaren Jackson Jr. $25,257,798
4 Marcus Smart $20,210,284
5 Brandon Clarke $12,500,000
6 Luke Kennard $9,250,000

7 John Konchar $6,165,000
8 Zach Edey $5,756,880
9 Santi Aldama $3,960,531
10 Jake LaRavia $3,352,680
11 Vince Williams Jr. $2,120,693
12 Jay Huff $2,088,033
13 Scotty Pippen Jr. $2,087,519
14 Kennedy Chandler $2,019,699
15 GG Jackson II $1,891,857
16 Jaylen Wells $1,157,153
17 Mamadi Diakite $464,050

Jimmy's salary is 48.8M, so yeah, we'd need to balance the scales. Those 4 guys' salaries are 48.1M...

You’re getting rid of 3 guys (Smart, Kennard, Jitty) that are gone at the deadline or after this season anyway. Clarke would be the 4th addition along with several picks. The Grizz lose depth, but if GG and VWJ get healthy, the Grizz retain a solid 10-11 man rotation with a Butler trade.

Butler is a short fuse and every locker room that he has been in has been worse off than when he found it.

But the Grizz championship window is this season and next season (JJJ’s contract). The Grizz have to push the chips in at some point and they have TPEs to help offset salary differences.
