I think he has every right to say it, besides what does he have to lose...  I know, I know, a game.  But everyone has doubted him, including myself because he is what he is, a back up quarterback that has average talent but outstanding leadership, he has earned the right to say it...so far.

I agree, he has every right to say it, but up until now he has taken the high road. I wish he would have stayed up there a little longer.

He's right. Quite frankly, winning is ALL that matters. If we win with an ugly offense, it's just another win. Not dissin RC at all, but we have been somewhat inconsistent in regards to our passing game. The WRs have certainly contributed to that let-down. But, I agree with the post above, Rick is prbably just fed up with the whining and complaining. He has the right to speak his mind, I'll betcha the rest of the players on our offense appreciate him taking up for them.

I think he is just frustrated with all the negative crap after coming into a disaster in Baton Rouge and leading them out a winner and then playing less than a week later and leading to another victory while being banged up. I got no problem with what he said, I would have said alot worse.

I love the comment.

It shows our plan is working!

About a month ago, several of us received secret communications from someone known only as RS.

Our plan has been to use double secret reverse psychology to put a chip on the shoulder of the offense - a rallying point.

We have operatives around the country. My work here in Birmingham is to motivate the Vols by questioning the offense and to soften up Bama.

While the plan has been painful and I've personally been called a "titty baby", we are beginning to see the early results. Yes, we have been providing the bullentin board material. Many of us have suffered (sprained egos) but if the results come through it will have been worth it.

To Volfans everywhere: You're welcome.

What's your take on Clausen saying that if the fans don't like the offense then they don't have to watch it.

Sounds like something Jerry Green would have said.

Was he sitting on Randy's knee when he said this?

I know he has the right to say it. He is an American. But that does not make it smart. I thought he was smarter than that.

....but what about his comments is unintelligent or untrue? It seems pretty benign to me.

"We don't care what other people think," said Clausen. "We don't care if the fans boo, we don't care what anybody thinks as long as we win football games."

"Ultimately, I thought that was the main goal, was to win games. If we put 500 yards up on the board and lose the football game, what's that mean? Nothing."

Ultimately, the goal IS to win games. We haven't seen 500 yards of offense from UT in a while. CoThis year, we have put up crappy numbers on offense. If Clausen is so smart, he should understand that, not make a snappy comment in the media about it.

If he is such a leader why doesn't he say something to the effect of "It's true, we haven't met the expectations to this point. We have had a high point in the second half of the LSU game and low point against Florida, our goal is to improve and continue to win games to reach our goals this year. "

A lashing out at fans does nothing but show immaturity.

There's no fence riding here chest.....I am a UT fan, not a Clausen/Ainge fan. I root for the team as a whole.

Our whole offensive scheme has problems, if you don't see that well then.....

When was the last time we ran up 500 yards of offense? How about this, how many times in the past 20 years have we run up 500 yards of offense and lost? I would bet less than 3.

If the offense were getting it done, which they aren't (we are still 3-1 and behind Florida) Clausen wouldn't be fielding those questions and making stupid comments in the media.

I wouldn't be so harsh except that before this season started, we were given very high expectations of this team.....by the coaches.

If you are mad at the team, don't call Clausen inmature for responding to the constant stream of negativity from a fan base that frankly is NEVER happy.

I don't care about 500 yards and 50 points, I just want one more point than the other team each week, and for the most part, that happens.

His comments aren't "stupid", they are deserved, and frankly he should be saying more.

Yes, I have it from good sources that RS reads this message board religiously and has taken the comments here to heart. He is painstakenly in the process of revising the offense based on our feedback.

My question is what took him so long?? With the genius on these message boards a 500 yd offensive performance is imminent.

From my sources, which are impeccable, I have been able to learn that RS is posting under the screen name "volbrian."

This thread is unbelievable!!!!!!! Giving RC props for popping off at fans. He's mad because the offense is being criticized?????
He barely had 50% completion ratio against Ole Miss. If he is such a leader and so mature, he would never make those comments. Jerry Green was run out of town for similar comments.

And another thing..... If RC wants to criticize the fans, then he is fair game. Let the fire storm begin!!!!!!!

Who do the players play for?

themsleves

the university

the coaches

the fans.......

If there weren't 100k fans and TV fans watching around globe, where would this program be??????

YEAH! Lets hang him!!! Look at what he did against LSU!!! The pitiful performance in the Cotton Bowl!!!! The way he filled in for Ainge and Schaffer!!!

Hes Fair Game!!! Somebody find something we can throw at him!!!!

he needs to keep his mouth shut and play football. He should not be reading the papers about his team!!!!!!

he is the qb of the Vols.........he needs to take charge and execute since RS calls such great plays. What he said makes hime sound like a spoiled brat.

What he said makes him sound like a guy who understands the big picture. I'm still looking in that article to find where he ripped the fans.... He's just stating the obvious.

The link above is exactly what RC said about the fans, at a PRESS CONFERENCE, when a reporter, evidently, asked him a question.

And you're an Ainge supporter?

I never would have guessed.

Yes I am an EA supporter because he wears an Orange Jersey with a Big T on it. I support all who wear it.
And yes it was a stupid comment and not needed. He and every other player needs to care about the fans. Listen to the coaches but you better care about the fans. He knows that. As a star and leader on a team with the support of a school like UT you better be ready to take some heat. It goes with the territory. I am not jumping on the kid just stating that he made a stupid comment. I will be yelling for him and the rest of the team. But that was a dumb thing to say to the people who support you most.

I just watched the comments . . . I still don't get what people are so upset about. All he did was answer a question with a predictable answer. It wasn't like he popped off or something.
