Your thoughts on LSU

Clemson looked outclassed and out of answers by the 4th qtr. Lsu probably won't duplicate that intensity next year , but this was a hell of a football team.

It didn't take 4 quarters....they were done at the end of the 2nd QTR....half-time just gave them a little reprieve and rest before LSU's offensive novocaine kicked in in the 2nd half to make them comfortably numb.

a bowl game is a vacation with a ball game in the middle. Gatlinburg and PF are great destination draws but damn, that's a haul getting to the game. Would be like staying in Mufreesboro or Lebanon to go to the MCB
So a 30min drive is bad? Since when? And I live in Murfreesboro

No they were not finished at halftime. They were got back to 28-25 and were in it with momentum. The LSU defense then stifled Lawrence and company on every drive after that. The game was over only when the score went from 35 to 25 to 42 to 25.

Just wanted to take the board's temperature regarding LSU's long-term outlook. Am I the only one who kind of thinks that they will be a perpetual nine to ten win team after Burrow leaves? Now that's not bad for playing in the SECw, but I just don't think Orgeron is an elite coach. When his coordinators inevitably get poached, I think they will regress rapidly.

They invested in a QB they had 2 years with to surround him with talent and it paid off. Hope Tennessee does the same with Bailey coming in.

LSU was having their way with Clem's defense at the end of the 2nd QTR....
LSU scored 21 unanswered points to close out the 2nd Qtr...and missed a FG or it would've been 31-17 at halftime.
Venables did nothing in the 2nd QTR to stop LSU.

You can't watch the ball and expect to understand what is happening on the field!

Do you even know why LSU got it rollin' in the 2nd QTR????

Venables started the game in the 1st half by blitzing and filling gaps out of a 3-3-5. ...the exact OPPOSITE approach he used against OSU.

Venables blitzed both inside LBs to start the 2nd half EVERY TIME LSU went EMPTY in the backfield because he had the numbers up the middle between the guard-center gaps on both sides of the ball.

That's the ONLY HOPE he had of stopping LSU's offense...

LSU's OC was slow to adjust to that approach in the 2nd half, but once LSU threw that screen pass out of an empty backfield on their 3rd possession of the 2nd half to stop Clem's all or nothing blitz approach...they scored to make it 35-25 and it was over!
And then LSU started throwing those slants in behind the LBs to make 'em pay for their blitzes....and Venables had NOTHING left in his defensive schemes to answer LSU's adjustments.

So....LSU DOMINATED the 2nd QTR....Clem re-grouped to score 1 TD on their first possession of the 2nd half---and then LSU dominated the entire 2nd half afterward....

You can disagree if you want.....but the game was over with 10 minutes left in the 3rd QTR when it went 35-25....

Per all the numbers we may have seen the best college football team to ever play the game in tonight's LSU team.

That may have been a factor if they had played right after the end of the season, but not at this point. These teams have only played one game in the last 5 weeks.
lol no. You don't fix a season's worth of injuries, accrued throughout a grueling SEC schedule, in five weeks. Stop being ignorant.

As it was, it wasn't enough to help Clemson, who was clearly outmatched.

I'm wondering why Neyland Stadium has never been used as a Bowl. With all that there is to do in that area the teams could stay busy. It could be called the Smoky Mountain Bowl and try to get Dolly to help sponsor it.

I'd call it the Mountain Mist bow. Or maybe the Knox-Knox Bowl. Or Rumble on the River Bowl. Even the River Bridge Bowl.

Clemson has better personnel than Oklahoma but to me they would have had 3-4 losses if they had LSU's schedule in the West.

- Alabama loss
- Auburn loss
- Georgia maybe loss
- Florida maybe loss
- Oklahoma maybe loss - could go either way
- assuming they play LSU loss

Good coaching though by Clemson, the DC did a great job of keeping the score down.... surprising to say that when LSU still generated 600 yards. Joe had his worse game since Bama last year as far as accuracy imo, he was off all night.. he doesn't miss many short throws and he missed on a few deep ones that he usually hits as well. I thought Clemson played about as best they could and LSU played borderline their worst game of the year, drop passes, messed up coverage on defense in the 1st quarter (early 2nd quarter) and lots of penalties.

Definitely a lot of team ball going on... defense really stepped up after quarter 1 (early 2nd quarter).... Lawrence kind of just looked like a normal QB, although I think he is very talented.

Ohio State probably would have been a better match up, imo.

I don't think the hotels/ or lack thereof vs. the size of the stadium is the reason. No reasonable person would think the game would draw 100K people. If you cut it down to the lower deck you're talking 65-68K and it wouldn't draw that many people.

People are usually not as good as people say, and normally they're not as bad as people say. I thought the Cookie Monster was the right choice in 2016 considering the state of college football, salaries, and LSU's program at the time and I stated it here - still feel that way today.... that doesn't mean I think LSU will be playing in the NC game every year. The issue with asking their thoughts on the situation here, is the vast majority of people that made comments back in the day, weren't kind of wrong on the Cookie Monster... they were COMPLETELY wrong and most will never face up to their horrible calls... so why does anyone care what the next horrible call is?

I think what is scary about LSU right now is they are still playing with ragtime personnel, many pieces Coach O put together are of pieces that many didn't really want i.e. probably would have never gotten committable offers from Alabama or Clemson for instance (Moss, Clyde, Burrow, Jefferson, lots of guys on the OL).... some Juco hits, some transfer hits, some moving personnel to different positions.... that doesn't mean that LSU is without a few stars but its definitely team ball. What Coach O has done to the OL is just damn straight crazy, from one of the worst groups I've seen at LSU to one of the best groups I have seen at any school.

It would be nice if they can close the season out tonight, either way the program to me is still in an upward trend... not at the top of the mountain due to some personnel issues but I would not be surprised by a coming to Earth next season to a degree.... defense will be better, offense will be worse.
USC is prolly feeling pretty stupid right now.
Although Coach O is one of those perfect fits for LSU. Those folks are crazy. They have to be loving how things shifted. Losing Saban and having him come back to the SEC with such success really got under their skin.

I can’t imagine it being possible for another QB to come in and run that offense the way Burrow did. The man threw for 60, 60! touchdowns in the toughest conference in America. Stunningly efficient. Greatest offense ever efficient. He also completed what, 76% of his passes? And that completion % wasn’t racked up via the dink and dunk Fromm/Georgia passes, no, Burrow threw the ball downfield, deep and pretty much wherever he wanted to.

The other big story will be Joe Brady. If he sticks around, LSU will remain very good. But the combination of losing Burrow and Brady would likely mean LSU takes a huge step back.

But they just had the greatest season I’ve ever seen. For that, you gotta just tip your cap.

If I'm the Cincinnati Bengals I hire Joe Brady for OC between now and the draft

While I agree with the weather comments I take some umbrage on the downtown is boring comments. While that has been true in the past there is a lot of cool stuff downtown now. Just this past weekend my wife and I got away, stayed at the Oliver and ate downtown. Knoxville is trying hard to reinvent itself and so far it is making progress.

BTW, off topic, but my wife and I did eat at the Lonesome Dove. We just never had and felt like we should give it a shot. I was not impressed. The food was really not that great and it was pretty expensive. I will eat at JC Holdway and get better food at about half the cost in the future.

We have exposed wiring, peeling paint, rusted metal, and make people pee in pig feeders.

The stadium has become an eye sore and needs serious love before its fit to host anything.
