My vote goes to West Virginia. Sure, they had a nice win over Georgia (I almost got kicked out of Chili's for hollerin' too much). STILL overrated in my opinion, and they caught Georgia by suprise, good a win as it was. All the run they're getting this season, IMO, is all the Big East fanboy sports columnits getting big chubbies that a Big East team could actually be good.

So I say -- West Virginia? OV-ER-RA-TED *clap* *clap* *clapclapclap*

Southern Cal. They'll have a season simliar to what OU experienced last year.

I say it every year . . . Florida annually gets stuck in the top 10 based on potential without doing anything to earn it. They might really be that good, but every year they get a free pass in the preseason rankings.

F$U easily. I've seen them as high as #5 in the preseason polls. They lost 4 first rounders and more than 10 to the NFL draft. Lose 7 starters on D from an 8-5 team that barely stayed ranked last yr and then expect them to be top 5 the next yr?? come on now..

Appears to be several polls ranking Cal in the top ten.I hope they are wrong!I look for the Buckeyes and Irish to be leading the pack. There appears to be several teams ranked off of last years games .Texas,USC,probably will slip.........drastically.

I kinda hope Cal is in the top 10...that'd be a good way to start the year off with a win over a top 10 team...I'm going to say USC is overrated, they lost their 3 offensive starters that produce most of their offense for them so that'll hurt them

A win would be GREAT!

USC. They lost too much talent to be hyped up as much as they are. Pete Carol is a great coach but he wont be as successful this year.

Ohio State because they lost all those starters on defense, and Notre Dame because they have no defense and Brady Quinn is overrated.

There isn't really any stellar team this year, which makes the national title wide open.

I think I'll ignore the top of the rankings to wonder aloud why everyone wants to fall in love with TCU. So they can dominate the Mountain West, does that make them one of the twenty best teams in the country? I think both Athlon and ESPN are reaching on this one...

I think they get considerable mileage out of winning at Oklahoma last year.

Maybe so, but in ranking them so high ESPN's Maisel at the same time pointed out that TCU must replace virtually the entire O-Line. I guess they have a RB that a lot of folks like, but without a line you're just Gerald Riggs Jr....

Ooooh, good burn! :birgits_giggle:
And my vote goes to TCU as well. I don't want Cal to be overrated, I want to beat a quality team!

I've done a little pokin around the Cal pages and one thing sticks out like a sore thumb that worries me. Since we have a QB comin back who has in the past seemed to have confidence and/or mechanics issues, a rebuilt -untested o-line out side of Sears, and wide outs who werent exactly biletnikoff award winners. The Cal bears have both cornerbacks returning as seniors...that got my attention.

i say oklahoma. last year they just plain stunk. peterson still had a real good year last year without all the attention. their qb is erratic and not that good. not sure if their defense is back yet.

i got the new athlon and it has them #1.

my pick for best team is ohio st.

More latent OU hatred. So a team that went 8-4 and beat the #6 team in the country "plain stunk?" What does that mean Fulmer's troops did last year? "Absolutely wreaked?" "Performed positively malodorously?"

I don't think it's hate at all. It's completely logical to wonder whether a team that lost 4 games is going to regain form, much less compete for a National title.
