Zaay Green

So I have a serious question... would people rather we keep a rule breaker for their talent (not saying this was the case with Zaay) because of potential wins or would people rather get the program back to a standard of accountability?

Fans (me included) complained about the discipline and the ladies not living up to the standard and now that this may cost us a player ... a player I really had hope for and loved to watch... it seems as if those thoughts and comments have been thrown by the wayside.
I will stick my toe in the water a little! Kellie knows more about LV basketball and the ins and outs of the program than anyone on this site.. She will not take any chances with rule breakers or breaker period. Not sure what Zaay did or did not do but bottom like it seems like there was something and ZAAY stepped up maybe with the coaches help or not an fessed up.... This program will always be a clean as possible and she is the one to see to it.

Just stop. No one they get from the portal will be able to replace the talent they just lost, especially given a full year in Kellie's system...

A talented, motivated player > a more talented but unmotivated player.

(That's been my experience in 12 years of coaching girls in three different sports).

Coaching changes will bring about player satisfaction and dissatisfaction. These girls bought into Holly's system and you better be glad that Kellie's system is different. It really says nothing about the program...or Kellie...or the players. It says that the program is headed into a different direction and Kellie needs players that will buy into what she wants. This is a natural weeding out process and should not be viewed as negative so much, but as necessary. The program will need a couple of years to get where she wants it to be....until then...you take your shots....

Can we just go ahead and cancel next season? Just kidding of course but to pretend this is not a major blow is utterly ridiculous.

The Post LV Instant Player Make Over now begins. Remember a few weeks ago when Zaay Green was a potential All American whose absence this season was the sole reason we weren't very good? Better without her. And suddenly Jazz is a bum too, her great improvement and stats a relief to be rid of. At least she can stop making JH turn the ball over so much (yes, this really got said). Also, there's all these juicy grad transfers hanging around on trees ripe for KJH pickin that will easily replace them both. So yes, clearly, this will make us much better next year. Delusion reigns.

As if this needs to be more troubling, Zaay's post clearly has all the signals of personal reasons and therefore probably unrelated to Jaz' departure. Just an unfortunate bit of timing, which is worrying because it would feel like KJH has inherited Holly Warlick's really bad, terrible luck.
Not that my opinion matters, but I agree 100%.

Losing Sabally is a huge blow for Oregon. Losing Walker is a huge blow for UCONN. Losing Carter is a huge blow for Tex AM. Losing Austin is a huge blow for Maryland. The list goes on and on. Losing Green AND Massengill is a huge blow for Tennessee.

And to say or insinuate that Harper was telling players, metaphorically speaking, to poop or get off the pot is also silly. She inherited what she got. It was a roster brimming with high school AA's. I don't dispute that she runs more disciplined offense and defense than Holly. She's probably more disciplined off court as well. But to think she would come in and drive away 4 incredibly important players (Collins, Westbrook, Massengill, Greene) - well, I just don't get statements like that.

Of course Kellie will recruit players that fit her mold, but she inherited a core group with lots of talent. An intelligent coach would make as many changes as possible without decimating the program. Then again, maybe she's crazy like a fox and has a host of AA's ready to commit next year.

I'm hugely disappointed. The first recruiting class Kellie has coming in is average at best. Yeah I know people say the pair are better than their rankings, but one is barely top 60, the other not even top 100. If she doesn't knock it out of the park in 2021, I worry she will never build any momentum and doom us to mediocrity. Striplin is a nice start but she's #50+.

Since it's going to be reported in the media shortly, Green has a misdemeanor drug case pending in Knox County. She has a court date in May, but that's up in the air because of court closures due to coronavirus.

Oh damn. Hate to hear this.

I hate it for her, and us
I hate that so much and by moving away is a way to get it out of her system. Seemed to be a great kid and I pray she will get on with her life. She was enjoying herself way too much on the bench and I am so glad that those who though Kellie run her off can now settle down. Zaay has three years to play so I am sure she will land at a good place for her!

Referenced in the article below:

Zaay Green leaves Lady Vols basketball, cites her 'actions and decisions' as reason

"Green is scheduled for a May 4 misdemeanor citation booking on a charge for simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance."

Sad but now it makes sense.

There was a lot of speculative buzz on the LV FB page that she was transferring because of grades but that really did not make much sense. Academic ineligibility would follow a player to the new school.

She knows what she did was wrong and we all hope she will learn from it. She will get a 2nd chance at some school.

Going to take some time to get this team turned in the right direction. Probably about three more years of KJH before things turn positive. ( with a new coach )
