Zaay Green

Can we just go ahead and cancel next season? Just kidding of course but to pretend this is not a major blow is utterly ridiculous.

The Post LV Instant Player Make Over now begins. Remember a few weeks ago when Zaay Green was a potential All American whose absence this season was the sole reason we weren't very good? Better without her. And suddenly Jazz is a bum too, her great improvement and stats a relief to be rid of. At least she can stop making JH turn the ball over so much (yes, this really got said). Also, there's all these juicy grad transfers hanging around on trees ripe for KJH pickin that will easily replace them both. So yes, clearly, this will make us much better next year. Delusion reigns.

As if this needs to be more troubling, Zaay's post clearly has all the signals of personal reasons and therefore probably unrelated to Jaz' departure. Just an unfortunate bit of timing, which is worrying because it would feel like KJH has inherited Holly Warlick's really bad, terrible luck.
Someone may have said she was potential AA however I did not read that and accept your statement. She was not and would never be and AA in my eyes. She was a very decent player but nothing near that to me and neither is Jazz or anyone on the team. I know Davis was a honorable mention but she had the talent to be one but was just too moody and really seemed unconcerned and lazy at times. If she gives it her all next year she very well may be

has nothing to do with being a UConn fan. It's just that this is what happens when a new coach takes over and it's not trolling because I think KJH is going to restore the LV program. All I am saying is don't panic, don't assume. Understand that there are a multitude of things happening that none of us have knowledge about. If you don't travel with the team, you are really ignorant about what goes on every day. Perhaps KJH is moving to another system and these fine ladies don't want to play in the forthcoming system. Perhaps KJH wants them to play more on ball than off or vice versa and the player doesn't think that is best for her. They are after all preparing themselves for a professional career and if they feel the path going forward will not showcase their skill set then it is wise of them to look for a system than will. These are the conversations that every coach has with every player at the end of one season. These are more than games. This is not rec league. This is a business and its best that everyone understand that is the way it is. Unfortunately most fans don't have a clue to how a D1 team works.

I'm sure you are trying to denigrate my comment by clarifying that my preferred team is Connecticut. By doing that you declare yourself parochial and myopic. Calling my a reasonable comment a troll defines you as overtly defensive.

Why does a UConn fan want to hang out on the UT board anyway ??? I don’t get it . I bet UConn has a great place for you to go !

Why did you think she would transfer last year?

least Talented? Compared to who? She was the number 10 recruit in 2018. She was on the All-SEC freshman team.
Again she was no where near the number 10 recruit if her freshman year was any indication. When the freshman year ended I was not sure that she would bail with Collins because she was close to HW as well. I knew when I left least talented in there that was not everyones opinion but mine but I really saw more talent in Rae than some of the others and I think time will tell that as well. All is good and will be in the near future I think.

I've had no issues with you in the past and if you've read any of my previous posts, it should be quite clear that I'm happy to engage with fans from other teams. But seriously. You are a UConn fan, and then you speculate...with no insight...that Kellie may have told her starting backcourt that they don't fit her future vision 1+ year after coming (Tennessee had problems, but Jaz wasn't the biggest culprit). And you don't see a problem with that? Thinking that's ok on a rival message board is more myopic than anything I've said to you in return.. You say "don't panic, don't assume"...but yet you are doing the exact same thing in your previous post and a few sentences later in your post above. It's the equivalent of me saying that Megan Walker left UConn because Geno told her she was not a fit for the program. Just...stop.

Every opinion is up for debate as well as mine however I really thought before she was hurt last year that she would have transferred with the other two. Again I believe she was the least talented from top to bottom at the git go. She like everyone had on the court problems as well. Hard to duplicate her enthusiasm on the sidelines last year but I wish them both well. JMHO as always! SS
Zaay has gone from Tennessee's best player when missing the season injured to the least talented. That happened quickly.

She had room for improvement, but losing her and Massengill will hurt no matter who comes out of the portal (unless Sabrina Ionescu and Tyasha Harris all of a sudden reappear in college next year). Horston will be good, but she will be backed up by Rennie, Salary and Darby. None of them can play PG, and the overall depth at the G/W spot is very weak without the two of them.

These two leaving don't totally kill us one played ok not a scorer and the other didn't play at all. We get a great grad transfer guard we'll be better than last season as long as Davis and Rae are coming back. Horston will be better and the two freshmen are better than anyone we had on the bench last season 8 thru 11.

Present Roster

Davis
KK
Rae
Horston
McCoy
Key
Saunders
Darby
Salary
Rennie?

I truly believe Kellie will get us a very good point guard transfer and a shooter. What do I know? not a dam thing!

I said at the beginning of the season that I thought Green was Tennessee’s best player, from a pure talent standpoint. I said that when she tore her knee up. I will stand by that, from a talent standpoint only.

Losing The potential that she has certainly hurts the team this year and the program overall, but I don’t think it is devastating by any means, particularly when Tennessee will likely be just as active in taking players out of the transfer portal as it is putting them in it.

So it’s looking like Kellie didn’t just lose a talented player because she didn’t want to be here but some rules were broken🤔 I am proud of Zaay for saying this decision was “being made due to her actions, decisions, and coaches”. Sounds like she is saying some poor choices were made on her part and now both parties agree it’s best to part ways.

I really enjoyed her energy on the court. I just wonder what happened to the days that kids would sit out at that school as a punishment. I always go back to Lindsey Harding of Duke she had to sit out A WHOLE YEAR and didn’t transfer and eventually came back to be a national player of the year and lead her team to a national title game.

Well devastating is a relative term. We just lost what you call the team's most talented player and also arguably the steadiest and most improved player from a roster already widely acknowledged to be depleted. Please lord, do not let us get any more devastated.

Just stop. No one they get from the portal will be able to replace the talent they just lost, especially given a full year in Kellie's system...

Greene had just as good stats in her freshman year as Burrell did in her sophomore season.

Dismissing what she would have brought to the table this season Is just silly. More than either incoming freshmen.

And Jazz? Just take out her assist/turnovers numbers off the team from last season. It ands up an incredibly bad assist/TO ratio. No one on the roster can make up for that.

She also played on a better team as a freshman but I will not argue about it , she is gone and so far what ever mistakes she seemed to make will come out and I say good luck to her!

So I have a serious question... would people rather we keep a rule breaker for their talent (not saying this was the case with Zaay) because of potential wins or would people rather get the program back to a standard of accountability?

Fans (me included) complained about the discipline and the ladies not living up to the standard and now that this may cost us a player ... a player I really had hope for and loved to watch... it seems as if those thoughts and comments have been thrown by the wayside.

Me I would love to see the student athlete overcome whatever it was and stick it out if they can and it doesn’t cause any harm to them, the team, or program as a whole. Now there were situations like physical altercations where leaving is just the best option of continuous breaking of rules.

The question is not if there are equal/superior talent in the portal, but if Kellie would be able to sign them. She will have lots of competition.

Actually I do think Megan was not a fit for the UConn team and am on record on both the Boneyard and here with my reasons for that. I don't think my original post was meant to a poster like you. It's that some posters were going all chicken little. As far as insight, I believe that on this issue and from some of the posts I have read I have more insight than anyone who is not an insider into the LV program. I served as Assistant sports information director at a national championship university and have seen the inner workings of teams. The scenarios I have laid out are very common. Perhaps, I am a bit obtuse with my post. It wasn't my intention to upset anyone and for that I apologize. The original post was a one sentence suggestion of the way D1 programs do work
