Zero Holding, Zero PI

Before I get into my rant: understand that Heupel made some poor decision w/ playcalling on offense that led to us getting shut out in the 2nd half. That being said...

There is no way in hell a truly unbiased football referee can watch that game and only find one penalty against Alabama. We don't get shutout in the 2nd half if it weren't for some non-calls against their defense for DPI or defensive holding.

Yes, I'm sure we got away with a holding call or a facemask at some point, but the fact that Alabama was never given a penalty for holding, PI, offsides, or false start is such a statistical anomaly. It's truly beyond comprehension. Especially considering Alabama was one of the most penalized teams in the SEC coming into this week. Add in the fact they are one of the worst teams in the nation at protecting their QB & they magically figure it out against one of the best pass rushing teams in the nation. The amount of offensive holding calls they got away with is beyond an acceptable amount and there were some pretty blatant ones they ignored. Not to mention there were a handful of plays (at least) were their DBs don't get flagged for PI or holding. I understand you won't get every call. Hell I even understand not getting most calls on the road, but we got NONE.

And the one penalty they were given, the snap infraction, shouldn't have even been called. That was a legal snap & Tennessee should've had the right to sack, or even strip-sack, their QB freely. My understanding is a snap infraction occurs when the offense initiates a snapping motion to begin play, but stops/doesn't finish the snap. The snap started & did not stop. No false start occurred. Refs blew the play dead to prevent a free play on the QB, which was not the correct procedure. I get it likely was done for player safety, but the fact that was the only penalty called & it actually benefitted them more than it hurt them is egregious.

SEC did not want Alabama to have 2 losses & knock them out of the playoffs. I won't be convinced otherwise.
One of these days, an email or text will leak showing the corruption of the SEC and there will be a 30 for 30 about it. But Saban will be long gone at that point.

If coaches do not start talking about it publicly at the podium after games and the weeks after then nothing will change. Bama is one of the most penalized teams in the SEC but gets nothing today ? These coaches need to quit being cowards about it an speak up.

There is one game in my lifetime that I believe Florida was screwed out of a win by officiating. It was 2003 against Florida State. And even in that game, at the end of the day, Chris Rix converted a 4th and 14 (if not longer) on Florida State's game winning TD drive. Florida had the chance to win and didn't make the play.

Officiating may not have been kind in this game. Fine. But, Tennessee had a whole bunch of plays that they didn't make that had nothing to do with officiating that prevented them from winning this game.
Good god no one wants to read anything from you at this point. Go make a gator friend somewhere. Somewhere that's not here

Anyone know where the public money was on this game? I’ve looked a couple of places but can’t find the answer

Tracks with what I remember, Florida always gets favorable officiating 😂

When they miss a call here or there that really doesn't affect a big play that's one thing. But the one shown above where bamas OL had Barron in a sleeper hold was the result of a TD. Enforce the 10 yard penalty on that and they may get no points on that drive. That was an extremely pivotal part of the game where Bama starts the come back. Momentum swings are huge in sports especially football, and if they don't score on that opening drive the second half doesn't get off to nearly as good of a start. Who knows what happens after that, it changes how both sides call the game.

For as long as I've been alive, fans of the team that lost complain about officiating as a way of coping with the disappointment of the loss. And sure - usually the losing team didn't make some plays it could have made.

But I've never understood the argument that bad officiating can't affect the outcome of a game between two evenly-matched teams, and that if a team suffers from bad officiating, it deserves to lose unless it overcomes the bad officiating with a level of stellar play and consistency that is not required of the team that benefits from the bad officiating. It's kind of like saying "it sucks that your pocket was picked, but unless you chased the thief down and took back your wallet, you deserved to have your stuff stolen and the thief isn't responsible."

Bama came into the game ranked 97th in fewest penalties allowed and 126th in sacks allowed. Tennessee came into the game ranked 3rd in sacks. And yet, Bama never held in this game? Not once? We all saw what happened.

There is rarely a single cause for a team's win or loss - games are complex. But any insinuation that officiating as bad as we saw this afternoon is de minimis in affecting the outcome of the game is way off the mark.

Only 1 penalty… not sure a team has ever played such a clean game of football ever… 🤔
Especially when they were averaging around 14 to 15 a game before today! What an amazing turnaround for the refs. They were the real winners in this game. I guess Saban paid them really well after the game!
