Don't understand Volnations obsession with..

Run oriented teams throw it 25-30 times a game to the 'D' off balance. The conference will be more run weighted 'til all those new QBs ''get broken in".

We are not Arkansas or Alabama we are Tennessee we have a history of having great Recievers and quarterbacks. Pounding the rock and controlling the clock is not our style but has told you that before. We have a physical offense but he wants to get as many snaps on offense as possible and wants to throw the football around a little also

We've also had some great running backs too.

A strong defense, a solid kicking game, a solid o line with a great running game will win championships.Control the clock and field position
With a great running game the passing game will be there for the knock out blows.

I know it's the ''age" of throwing it all over the field for 60attempts a game. That's flashy but it's not necessary.
A run game wins games...
Having a passing game keeps you from losing haha

We have a history of better RBs than QBs. Last time I checked Alabama has more championships than we do.

I agree that we need to be balanced and being able to do one well makes it easier to do the other but historically against teams like Bama, Florida, and Georgia the team that runs the ball the best wins.

1997 is considered one the best offenses UT has ever put on the field. That season they averaged 332 yards passing, 151 yards rushing, and held the ball 30:20 per game.

Running the ball chews up the clock and gives your D a rest.

OP, go back and look how many drives we've had in the last 5 or so years that lasted under 1 minute...that's not good.

That's a lot more passing yards than rushing. Are you sure your comments support the theory you think they do?

VNs love of running the football is the same as their love of the "power play".

It's all based in some archaic belief that it's more manly to force your will on another group of young men by ramming balls down their throat, or something gay like that.

VN posters love to claim that zone teams aren't physical and that we should run power. When in fact, most of them couldn't tell you what a power play is, they just like the sound of it.

It's the same with running the football. It just sounds more masculine to them.

Running the football. it seems like I've seen hundreds of comments and threads about how we have to pound the Rock every game and how all we have to do is run on this team or that team to win and saying things like if we could run every down to win I would. What about all these sick athletes we have at WR? And Dobbs can throw! we need to have a 50 50 balanced attack or maybe even close to 55 45 pass run with these WR we have. If we can get a balanced attack going it could be top 3 in the SEC for sure and it would do nothing but HELP the Oline!

Op...running the football is what most great teams are built on. It allows you to control pace, control the clock, and it's ultimately demoralizing to our opponents when we are able to pound it in them. And we finally look to have all the necessary pieces to have a successful running attack

And some on VN pretend like they know about coaching when in actuality the only thing they really know how to do is use google efficiently.

I think you're reaching. Not a bit, but a lot.

Why don’t we take a look at just how well a highly effective running game has correlated with success over the course of Tennessee football history. Here are the years in which we led the SEC in rushing:

1951 306.8 ypg. SEC and National Champion. 10-1.
1970 215.0 ypg. 11-1. Finished 4th in the nation.
1989 245.6 ypg. Co-SEC champion. 11-1. Finished 5th in the nation.
1993 238.3 ypg. 9-2-1. Finished 12th in the nation.
1994 231.2 ypg. 8-4. Finished 22nd in the nation.
1998 211.3 avg. SEC and National Champion. 13-0.
1999 191.3 avg. 9-3. Finished 9th in the nation.

As for actual seasonal yardage totals, these would appear to be our best years:

1951: 3,068 (10 games). SEC and National Champion. 10-1.
1950: 2,710 (11 games). 11-1. Finished 4th in the nation; would have been national champions under formats in which the final poll was released after bowls.
1989: 2,701 (11 games). Co-SEC champion. 11-1. Finished 5th in the nation.
1987: 2,652 (12 games). 10-2-1. Finished 14th in the nation.
1993: 2,621 (11 games). 9-2-1. Finished 12th in the nation.
1994: 2,543 (11 games). 8-4. Finished 22nd in the nation.
1998: 2,536 (12 games). SEC and National Champion. 13-0.

It looks like we have a strong statistical correlation between running the ball well and overall success, as measured in conference and national championships, as well as high ranking in the polls.

What?? Lol! Project much brother?!? No, it's about being able to control the game with less risk. It's about being very good in a very important phase of pretty much any and every football game ever played. There's a reason why, for example, that pretty much whoever runs for more yards historically in the Florida-Tennessee series wins the game. My guess is most VN posters like to see Tennessee wins games....not engage in some kind of homoerotic machismo like you suggest.

Control of the clock. For example ,below I list all conference champs since 1950 who couldn't run the football well.:
