Practice 18

JG was fighting what? He was 4/5 and looked great before the game was called. He looked great in the spring and this fall. They both have. JG has gotten praise every time that QD has. Yes QD will probably start the first game. You are wrong about every thing else like usual when it comes to qbs. You are the guy that says Worley is a better passer than Dobbs. You obviously pick a qb when there are two and just make up anything to make your favorite look better and downplay the other. I'm not pulling for either. QD has shown that he has the potential to be a good qb and has a little more experience. JG also has shown potential and is said to have more upside.

Jones has praised both equally and will play both. If there was some lead at all QD would be the unquestioned starter. Butch is on the hotseat. Do you really think he is so stupid to risk playing two guys and all that could go wrong with that if Dormady really had a lead in play so far? Butch isn't that stupid. The practice reports say they both look good to great. Butch says they are close. The other coaches say they are close. :hi:
I have been right every time about QB's since Jones arrived. I have picked the starters based on what was being said.... including when many were all over Riley Ferguson.

You are hearing what you want to hear. I haven't picked a QB. I like them both. I am simply paying attention to what is being said. I could be wrong... but based on what they've said QD was ahead by a good amount leaving spring and has not been caught yet.

Yeah. And Worley was a better passer than Dobbs when it came to ball placement and reads. Dobbs struggled with that in college and continues to struggle with it. Of course it may be asking too much of you to put a player's talent in one area in the context of the receivers and OL they played with....

PS- Jones has not praised both equally. Jones has called QD "consistent". He has said recently that JG has looked good but needed to be more consistent. I know you don't want to see it... but that is HUGE.

Awesome, thanks for sharing.

To be fair that's been four years and I think it's been more than clear that Dobbs was the starter for three of those.

There was a debate over Worley starting in year 1 and 2. There was a debate involving Ferguson. Then there was a debate over Dobbs vs Peterman. I actually liked Peterman a lot... but he wasn't the right guy at the time.

I've also been condemned as a "nega" or for some criticisms... only to have Jones affirm what I had gleaned from comments by actions. He will actually tell you quite a bit if you listen for key words. Consistency is probably the biggest one. He rarely praises someone for being consistent but when he does it means a lot. He is more likely to say someone needs to be more consistent... that means even more. He doesn't like inconsistency because it causes big plays against you.

You compare and collate what Jones says with what the other coaches and practice reports say... and you get a decent picture.

I am over 90% certain that QD left spring with a big lead. I am about 80% certain he's the starter right now and will perform well. Personally, I do not think JG will leave the program over it. I think he will be very good at UT whenever he gets his shot to be the starter.

Jones made an outstanding move to bring Canales in.

What do you mean "subtract" them? Someone is being kicked off the team?

Your post specifically omits any injuries or suspensions and this is Tennessee. Expect worst case. The deal is we are supposed to be at a point, or nearing a point where we can overcome worst case scenario. In worst case.... what do we look like? I was expecting us to still be fine this year. But, it appears we may need more time at Oline and that is spinning me into a slow tortuous panic.

S&C has a big impact on injuries. UT has gone from a guy who never should have been hired to a guy with an NFL resume. I feel much better about them being able to work with a group of 7 or 8 over the course of the season.

However... sometimes durability needs to be a factor beyond a guy's talent. If someone stays hurt then it doesn't much matter how good he is. If someone doesn't get hurt then his steadiness is a big plus.

I can see how the suspension talk might have you rattled but IMO... it won't come to anything. There were some reports that lead you to believe it is in Jones' hands now. I trust Jones with discipline and especially after O'Brien was booted last year at the worst possible time.

Just a guess... but I think that if a suspension were coming then the player(s) would know already. There's no way they would have kept quiet. The fact that they are quiet makes me think that they are being allowed to "earn" their way into playing.

The offense had plenty of problems against SCe and Vandy...couldn't crank a long drive or score out when we needed it most.....:salute:

I'll give you the Carolina game but the Vols scored over 30 vs Vandy. That should be a win especially against a Vandy team that struggled to score 20 its in any other game.

Mon ami, calmez-vous. Tout sera bien.

I'll take a stab at the starting OL assuming no suspensions or additional injuries:

RT- Kendrick
RG- Smith
C- Robertson
LG- Boulware
LT- Richmond

I think the next 3 up will be Tatum, Jones, and Thomas. All three will play in the starting rotation. Honestly, I didn't expect Jones to be fighting for a position at this point... I thought he'd be an established starter but it seems as if others have caught and passed him.

The biggest question in my mind is who is next up at LT if Richmond misses time.

RT Smith
RG Jones
C Roberson
LG Boulware
LT Kendrick
