Why did the cops ask Vol fan to sit down last night?

People who stand up for long periods block the view of those who can't stand or prefer to sit. They should be considerate and stay seated unless there is some compelling reason to stand. I'm a big guy with wide shoulders. When I stand, kids and shorter people cannot not see. If I had to stand to see, anyone behind me would be forced to stand and most would still not be able to see. It's inconsiderate and wrong.

Yes it would. Don't lie to bolster your argument.

I've been going to games since I was 5. I wasn't born 6 ft tall believe it or not. When we went to games, we expected people to be standing. If I couldn't see, I moved around or figured it out. My parents didn't call the cops or ushers because they knew we were AT A FOOTBALL GAME!

Crazy huh?

I agree with you slightly.. When we're on defense we should all be standing and giving them oppose team hell, on offense we should only stand when we're about to score or if a big play is or about to happen

I am an usher in the stadium. Whether it is liked or not, the person has a right to stand as long as he is not standing on the seat. The cop had no jurisdiction to make him sit, and the usher of that section should have told the officer to leave him alone. If the cop continued the issue, a stadium supervisor should have asked him to move on. I agree that there should be consideration for those who sit around you if you stand, but he really does have the right to stand up for the entire game. The police were out of line.

Isn't it Texas A&M where they stand the whole game? SIAP

I go to the game to cheer scream holler you name it. If I want to watch the game sitting there with my arms crossed like I'm at church or something I'd stay at home and watch it in my recliner.. A lot more comfortable.

News flash. You can be equally if not more loud cheering on your ass. Stomping feet ie.

Somebody doesn't understand the authority of a cop. You could call Colin Powell to address the situation, in the end you do what the cop says or get escorted out. The dummies that stand have yet to figure out their view is exactly the same as if they were sitting.

problem: people standing the whole game.

Solution: Standing only sections.

Advantage: Both get what they want, the University saves on seats!

Yeah I guess some of us just hope the cop understands he doesn't have the authority to do that.

You're right. The cop must have been asleep during the countless hours of training and coordination between KPD, THP and stadium management and in addressing something this simple

It's also stupid to imply that all students are there for social hour. I was a student once and would have to disagree.

I've sat all over Neyland Stadium and never had a problem.

You've sat all over Neyland? Or you've stood all over Neyland?

:) Just messin' with ya.

Holy crap are you serious? Oh yeah, those KPD are regular Navy Seals. Gimme a break. How bout they worry about keeping people safe and upholding the law? Is it illegal to stand?

And most the cops I've seen at UT games could barely run 10 ft much less catch me in a footrace.

Standers are one big reason I don't go any more. Even though I am in good enough shape to lift and jog, I have an unusual back ailment that makes standing still in one spot in very painful. I always got stuck behind the jackass that stood thru timeouts, halftime, etc.

What's annoying is that most people I see standind aren't 1/3 as loud as I am. What is the purpose of standing and not yelling? Neyland has amazing site lines.

Also, if you are in the upper deck you are foolish to stand. If everyone in the upper deck would stomp both their feet like in the old days, it would be deafening.

Sorry. But it's stupid to imply lots of people stand the majority of the game. Student section maybe, but a lot of them are there for social hour. Most fans who buy a ticket go to watch the team play a football game. We stand when it's warranted, and sit the rest of time.

I hear this crap so much. Really thankful for the fans in X1 who never seem to have an issue figuring out when to stand and when to sit.

I stand the entire time every game almost. I do not advocate standing if people are sitting behind you and you will be in their way. I'm just lucky enough to sit at the top of my section.

The stadium staff actually does have primary authority over the police. I have done this for 11 years. We have primary authority until it is turned over to the police, and then we can opt to step out of the way. However, the officers are paid by the university to be there to assist stadium staff, and they are told to comply with directive from stadium staff.
