in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

AJ JohnsonWhile the 2010 recruiting class is currently in full swing it is never to early to start looking towards the 2011 class. VolNation got a chance to speak with A.J. Johnson of Gainesville High School in Gainesville, GA who happens to already be on the radar of Lane Kiffin and his staff.

“I am interested in the Tennessee program, yes sir. They’ve actually offered me a scholarship and I love the atmosphere that is coming out from there right now. The coaches are all fired up and are really trying to turn the program around and into a great school again,” explained the 6’2 212 pound Johnson.

While Tennessee has offered this 2011 star Inside Linebacker early they are not the only ones to have offered Johnson a scholarship.

Right now I have offers from Tennessee, Clemson, Ole Miss, NC State, UCF, and also Auburn. I am also hearing a good amount from Alabama. I went to the Friday Night Lights camp and while I was there the coaches told me they liked me a lot and that they’d get in touch with me as well. Growing up loving Georgia I am hoping they can start recruiting me as well,” explained Johnson.

Johnson informed VolNation of some off-season goals he’s made this summer in hopes to accomplish goals going into his Junior year.

“Right now I am just keeping my head down from things. Working really hard and keeping focused on getting better every day. Staying out of trouble and keeping football on my mind. We only lost one game last year so we want to win that state title. So I am working really hard to get that state title and that ring on our finger because I think we can do it,” said Johnson.

Johnson recorded 160 tackles and four sacks last year from his Linebacker spot and hopes to improve on that number this coming fall.

“I don’t make any real goals for stats. I just want to do better then I did the year before as a team and as an individual. Last year I had a 160 tackles so I want to beat that number which I know I can do if I work hard right now and get ready for the season,” says Johnson.

While Johnson is focusing on getting ready for his upcoming season VolNation would like to wish him good luck on getting the state title and also many thanks for speaking to us regarding his recruitment.
