For many recruits the staff has their interest but many haven’t spoken too much with the new coaching staff once Lane Kiffin left the Vols for USC just before signing day.
One recruit who was offered very early in his junior season was DeAnthony Arnett (Saginaw,MI) by the old staff and even after the coaching change still has the Vols in his top group of eight schools.
“I have my top eight now,” Arnett said. “My top three is USC, Notre Dame and Michigan State. You can say they are one, two and three in that order. Numbers four through eight in any order are Michigan, Oregon, Cincinnati, Tennessee and Iowa,” said Arnett to ESN affiliate web site Irishsportsdaily.com.
Arnett visited Tennessee a few years back for a Vol football camp and has cited that in the past for a big reason why he was interested in the Vols.
Last fall as a junior at Saginaw high school Arnett saw opposing defenses approach him with double coverage as he was the defenses’ primary concern. Even with the double teams Arnett caught 41 passes for 875 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Vols will have to face a tough task of competing against their formar head coach who recently just offered him a scholarship to play football at USC.
“That was a school I was waiting on. It gets no better than USC. I grew up watching all their great receivers. I’ve always liked USC.”
“As far as the school, education is the number one priority. I also want to play in a pro-style offense or some typer of a spread offense where they get the ball to the playmakers.
In 2010 Tennessee signed Juntin Hunter, Da’Rick Rogers, Ted Meline, Matt Milton to play wide receiver and that means the number of receivers brought in for 2011 will likely be on the low end.
VolNation.com will catch up with Arnett shortly to give a more indepth update.

Might want to wait on what “John Law” has to say about ole Coach X’s program before you give them your soul, Mr. Arnett.
Yeah, I’m kinda interested in the NCAA’s decision later this month also. I would hate it for the recruits that he already has signed, if the NCAA actually does anything to USC. If an SEC school pulled the crap that PC and staff pulled at USC, the SEC school would get the death penalty, or close to it. I really don’t want to hate on USC, as I have kinda liked them over the years, but if these allegations are true, then the NCAA should really sanction them, no bowl games, no tv, loss of ?? scholarships, etc, for a couple of years at least. This would actually serve a dual purpose for the NCAA, get USC AND Kiffin for his antics that he has pulled in his short tenure in college football. Sure, it would give me and a lot of other Vol fans a bit of inner satisfaction for what the devil tricked us into believing while he was here.
GO VOLS!!
