😂

There's always an "out" after all the insiders claim it's a done deal.

👆This cat may be on to something. Sounds a lot like last time around. But if it comes out that we can't get this coach or this coach because of Haslem, then fans should be angry. We are becoming the Browns of College Football.

This is like the 10th time we've heard "a coaching change in the middle of the season hurts Tennessee's standing with prospective head coaches" from multiple people. I think Hubbs had even said it.

Do you guys buy that? I'm not sure I do.

Definitely gets it.

It's funny hearing the same people who say a mid season coaching change hurts Tennessee say that Florida canning McElwain in the middle of his third year while trying to weasel him out of his buyout will have no negative ramifications for UF.

For context. Current thought in that thread is the coaching change is part of a bigger effort by boosters to change the structure/culture of UT's relationship with the AD. The change is being spearheaded by Charlie Ergen and ends up reducing the influence/power wielded by the Haslam's hence their opposition. Currie is caught in the middle since Haslam was the one who got him hired.

From what I read, Ergen will vote with Haslam. Thornton and Anderson are looking to gain more power.

It looks like he is calling him a bald faced lying troll to me..

How's that for escalation?

I mean you either think he's a lying troll or you think he's being fed bad information, basically being trolled by the people he donates to or you think his information is correct and Haslem is fudging it all up.

You guys ready for my hot take? Big Jim is no more meddlesome than any other top booster at all the other major universities in the country. He provides the money and gets his say, but at the end of the day, the athletic department has made bad coaching hires repeatedly that have put us in the position we are in currently.

As to our reputation in regards to firing coaches, what looks worse?

Keeping Butch dangling in the toxic vapors of this fan base.
Letting him go about his business of starting fresh somewhere else.

I'd be inclined to agree except that it's always Haslam's name coming up as standing in the way, and his son's incompetent handling of the Browns makes it easier to believe that the family on the whole has no idea what they're doing.

That combined with Larry saying absolutely nothing gets done without Big Jim's sayso...

I have no doubt that Fulmer may have been advised, and he said it's not a good look. But it may bite them in the ass this time around. I was not in favor of firing him after UGA, but I figured it would be done after maybe Bama or UK.

Off the top of my head:
Decommitments from recruiting class, negative stories arising in the media that damage the reputation of the university, players quitting, starting from behind a division rival on our coaching search, player discipline slipping, resulting in suspensions, coaching staff dissension, fan apathy and boycott movements, and an overall sense throughout the nation that our program is in turmoil.

1. They happen and always will. Some you’re probably freaking out about haven’t even happened...i.e. DEFINITE
2. Speculative
3. See #2
4. If you’re referring to Jack Jones, you spelled spinal stenosis wrong.
5. See #3
6. Did it “slip”? Know some regular posters who will tell you it never stood up.
7. See #5
8. You and some others ain’t US.
9. See #8
10. I’ll claim apathy on that. They’ll find something else. Maybe when the Weinstein crap turns toward the Nick Saban’s of the world. They’re TALKING HEADS! They gotta pretend someone’s lower on the food chain.

Hope this helps.

Ahhh just f****** with you! I don’t care if it did. :w00t:

Is haslam the largest booster? He's certainly not the wealthiest booster from what I've seen.

No, but he's the most influential and politically connected of the mega-boosters, and it will take a long time for anyone to rival him in that respect.
