Is it possible? Yes. But, I would like to add that none of us here have any idea what Currie is dealing with in terms of a coaching search. Has it occurred to you or Bass that it may not be that easy?

UF found an out while knowing that McElwain wasn't the guy long-term regardless of his team management issues. What is sad is that the history books won't show that UF lucked their way into the SEC east title 2 years in a row.

Found an out. Basically they aren't a university full of pu$&ies and went out and made it happen.

You guys ready for my hot take? Big Jim is no more meddlesome than any other top booster at all the other major universities in the country. He provides the money and gets his say, but at the end of the day, the athletic department has made bad coaching hires repeatedly that have put us in the position we are in currently.

However, based on the speculation being put forth in the Gruden thread, the other high level boosters have had enough and are trying to make a power play. The speculation is that they will pay top dollar for a coach (preferably Gruden) or they will withdraw their donations, which could effect the renovations of Neyland and other facilities.

This is like the 10th time we've heard "a coaching change in the middle of the season hurts Tennessee's standing with prospective head coaches" from multiple people. I think Hubbs had even said it.

Do you guys buy that? I'm not sure I do.

Unless its questionable. Would say UF dumping Mac without the "cause" issue would fit that description.

Otherwise coaches understand how it works. If its reasonable, they get it.

I'd be inclined to agree except that it's always Haslam's name coming up as standing in the way, and his son's incompetent handling of the Browns makes it easier to believe that the family on the whole has no idea what they're doing.

That combined with Larry saying absolutely nothing gets done without Big Jim's sayso...

I'll go with Larry and Doug Mathews on this. They've both said that any major decision regarding the Tennessee AD ultimately has to get the yes or no from Haslam. In the past it's been big Jim, now maybe it's the one who is doing such a fine job with the Browns.

You honestly believe it hasn't been decided? I really don't think many of y'all understand the complexity of some of this stuff. The media has y'all thinking you can wave a magic wand and get whatever you want and coaching moves are easy to make.

It isn't that complex and difficult to fire a coach. You just have to sack up and do it...... if you're interested in winning at a high level that is......

Still Big Jim from what I’ve gathered and he doesn’t make the calls but does have veto power.

I’m getting my popcorn ready for the BOT meeting in 30 minutes.

That'd probably be alright with Haslam.

Some of you people are pansies already scared of Florida if Frost goes there. He’s beat a whooping 1 power 5 team and it was Maryland for god’s sake.

That’s whats wrong with Tennessee football

The fans wanting the administration to get their ish together and make a good hire is the problem? Get real

I'm not suggesting he doesn't have most of the power. He does. My point is that ultimately Hamilton chose Kiffin and Dooley and Hart chose Butch. Haslam approved, which may be an issue I guess, but he's no worse than the majority of major money guys around the country.

You believe everything you read or just the things that you don't want to be true? Do I need to link you some quotes where other people had Norvell at the top for them?

Austin Price isn't the go to guy for UT coaching search news much less Florida. Not surprised you are buying it. It fits your hashtags.

May or may not be true but Price makes at least the third source that wouldn't just be saying it for no reason. The UCF guys said it and didn't Huguenin say it?

1. They happen and always will. Some you’re probably freaking out about haven’t even happened...i.e. DEFINITE
2. Speculative
3. See #2
4. If you’re referring to Jack Jones, you spelled spinal stenosis wrong.
5. See #3
6. Did it “slip”? Know some regular posters who will tell you it never stood up.
7. See #5
8. You and some others ain’t US.
9. See #8
10. I’ll claim apathy on that. They’ll find something else. Maybe when the Weinstein crap turns toward the Nick Saban’s of the world. They’re TALKING HEADS! They gotta pretend someone’s lower on the food chain.

Hope this helps.

Ahhh just f****** with you! I don’t care if it did. :w00t:

I don't want to turn this into a huge argument, so I'll just concede on most of this stuff. Some of this stuff I don't think I could ever convince you wasn't speculation just due to the very nature of it. I'll just say I think your standard of proof is a bit high. We can agree to disagree. People can make up their own minds whether or not Currie's inaction is helping or hurting things. That's cool with me.

However:
5. It's more speculative to say we aren't behind Florida in our coaching search than to say we are. We still have a coach employed, they don't.
8. Questioning people's fandom level just becuase they disagree with you on the direction of the AD is pretty lame. I think anyone that knows me wouldn't claim that I'm not a lifelong diehard. I'm one of YOU whether you like it or not.

I believe so. Not as if it wasn't already, but if Florida does hire Frost it's going to make this hire that much more critical for us. If we hire a Bobo type, get ready for another decade long losing streak to the gators.

Entering silly season. Wait a couple days and 3 more will say something else. Norvell was the talk on Monday.
