How did he inherit a stacked program? Frost had one full class there and they've never signed a top 50 class since they've been in existence.
He was fired as OC when Oklahoma had the 23rd ranked offense in the country. Their defense however, was awful, but Stoops brother was coaching defense and he refused to fire him. So he scape goated the offensive coaches.
Kiffin doesn’t want to come here. Freeze isn’t welcome by the SEC, let alone a school hoping to avoid the death penalty. Do you want to be this century’s SMU?Lol at kicked out of the conference. These coaches you are pulling for are much more likely to get us sent to the AAC. Isn’t Kiffin currently at an SEC school or had Ole Miss bent sent to the AAC?
Whether he is the guy or not. I think it's not necessarily fair to say he's regressed each year. Has he been undefeated every season? No, but I found a look at the stats and circumstances interesting.
In 2018, the team returned their veteran starting QB, McKenzie Milton. They finished the regular season undefeated, and Milton suffered that horrendous knee injury in the final game.
2018 offensive numbers: 3347 yards passing and 29 touchdowns; 3459 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns.
2019 saw Heupel starting a true freshman quarterback, Gabriel. They finish the year 10-3. The offense hums again.
2019 offensive numbers: 4117 passing yards for 36 touchdowns; 2923 rushing yards for 34 touchdowns.
In 2020, the team had ten players opt out prior to the season beginning, including multiple starters. The offense in 10 games put up the following numbers: 3574 passing yards and 32 touchdowns; 2107 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns.
So, in three seasons, Heupel's offense put up 196 touchdowns. By comparison, we have scored 88 touchdowns in the past three years.
Do they play in a lesser conference? Yes. Did they have a disappointing 2020? Yes. Would I rather have some other candidates? Also yes.
Is this the worst possible hire? I don't think so. That doesn't mean it's good enough, but it may be as good as we can do.
Strength of Schedule ranked 68. That’s not much better than their undefeated season. In 2020; 6-4 with losses to a very good Tulsa team, Memphis by 1 point, Cincinnati and the mighty Luke Fickell by 3, and BYU in a bowl game where they had significant opt outs.
Oh, and 10 players opted out to start the season, including multiple starters.
Their strength of schedule was ranked 97th.
Except after they fired Heupel, the Oklahoma offense took off.
He inherited a stacked program at UCF, because the numbers say so. His program and roster were better than everyone else in the conference and most by a long shot.
Not only hasn't he built a program, he has failed to maintain the program he inherited.
And they have an actual track record of improving their respective programs and winning at high levels.

Yeah . . . if you even slightly look into the details of Central Florida's season, it's not as if there was a mystifying regression. He had a bunch of opt outs and 3 one score losses where they led in the 4th quarter including against Cincinnati.Milton actually missed 3 games in 2018 with injuries. In 2020 they lost several more players to opt out as the season played out.
I really don't understand what people want. He plays teams with equal talent and wins 80 percent of the time. He plays teams with VASTLY more talent and takes them to the wire.
Ahh you skipped what happened at MissouExcept after they fired Heupel, the Oklahoma offense took off.

^^THIS^^I’ll say this, I’m not sure who should be hired, I’m not that skilled in hiring D1 football coaches. But, BUT, I’ve been humbled over the past decade and this could get ugly with the NCAA. Whoever is hired, we need to unite as a fan base and back the guy till the bitter end. We need to show that we can support a coach, no matter what and maybe the next guy may just be “the one” I know it’s hard, I couldn’t stand Dooley, Butch or Pruitt, near the end of their tenure but what we’re doing now is not working. I’m guessing that not only is our football program the laughing stock of college football but we as fans probably are as well. I’ve always thought it was stupid when someone blamed the fans and I’m in no way doing that. The fans didn’t cause Pruitt to have a 3-7 record. But we can impact the program, probably more than we realize. The next coach has the cards stacked against him and when he takes the job, it tells me that he wants to be here. I’m sure the money is helping make that decision too but a lot of coaches have said thanks, no thanks, to us over the years. We have to prove that while we are a passionate fan base, we are also the most supportive fan base in the land. I know many of you are going to bash this post to no end, I don’t care, I put it out here, knowing what was coming. All I’m saying is, take a look in the mirror and ask if you’re really doing this program any good by emailing prospective coaches or tweeting at recruits. Rick Barnes is possibly the best coach we have ever had on the hardwood, and we’re ready to write him off because his team has lost 3 games thus far. I’ve come to realize that I don’t have anything riding on these kids, other than foolish pride. I’m not a big time booster, hell, I’m not a small time booster but I love Tennessee and I’ve decided over the last few years that it’s only a game and I’m enjoying it, having fun with it, not living or dying with it. If Heupel is the guy, so be it. He has my support, until it’s obvious that he’s not cutting it. At that point, I’ll sit back and watch the next search unfold. Maybe we should be tweeting Yves Pons or Fulkerson, that we’ve got their back and are rooting for them, when they drop a game or two, instead of tweeting how terrible they are. Maybe we should be supporting these kids. We are VOLNATION, the greatest fan base in the world and it’s time we show it! It’s time we put our orange on and let everyone know how proud we are to be TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS, records be damned!
GBO!!
Heupel has already proven he can develop a QB. See Sam Bradford. Pretty sure Heupel was the QB coach the year Bradford won the Heisman. With the strength of our team being offensive skilled position players, this might be the best hire we could make. Harrison Bailey should be a happy man if we get Heupel.
Strength of schedule matters when evaluating records. His record has declined in each of his 3 years and this past year, you tout his loss to a “very good Tulsa team” lol, yet this strength of schedule is pretty close to the same as the u defeated season frost has. So even the schedule can’t refute that UCF has regressed under his leadershipCongratulations on discovering that teams that play in the P5 have stronger strengths of schedule.
Also, it was 6oth. So you were only off by slightly more than50% on your meaningless stat. NCAA College Football Strength of Schedule Rankings & Ratings
