We're overblowing "development" big time. The NBA drafts on potential. Every team is well aware of Lanier and what he can/can't do. Playing for x coach vs y coach is not going to make or break him on getting drafted. Good example: Bronny James.
Do you honestly think Knecht would be projected to be a top 10 draft pick if he would have stayed at Northern Colorado?

In the grownup world of professional sports, they spend endless hours assessing the value of the asset that is the player. If that asset can be worth more in a year, they pass on the easy money now. I’m sorry you don’t understand this, but that doesn’t make it less true.
You are acting like Tennessee vs Kentucky is like driving a Ferrari vs a used 2006 Nissan Altima. He'll have good coaching and facilities at both schools.

Could be wrong here, but if development was his absolute highest priority, he'd walk on at Uconn or something, no NIL needed. Better yet, he'd go to the G League where he would develop way better than anywhere else.

UConn isn’t offering him, G league is a bad move, and Pope didn’t coach Durant, TJ Ford, Grant, Admiral or Knecht. Coaches develop players, not schools.

We're discussing Tennessee vs Kentucky here. I hate Kentucky too but 99% of recruits would kill for a chance to play there. Kentucky has a better fan base, better facilities (probably?, not 100% on this), and is offering more money. The only difference is an unproven coach and Pope's probably not that bad. I'm not sure how much "more" Kentucky is offering. If the difference is 50k or less, maybe we have a shot. If the difference is like 500k vs 600k though...Lanier will be in blue and I have 0 doubt about that.
Tell that to Dalton Knecht. I said this when NIL became reality. Automatically chasing the top bidder is just being short-sighted. Would your DL prospect rather go play football at Kentucky for more or play at UT under Rodney Garner for less? Sure, the amount of money can determine it, but we are just speculating as to what that is.

It's just like getting 3 bids to renovate your home? Do you automatically take the cheapest one? Of course not. There is much more to these decisions than just the dollar amount.

It's about maximizing your value, and you make similar decisions when you choose your investment advisor, attorney, or doctor.

I'd compare it more to the contractors giving the bids assuming there's endless work opportunities (because Lanier can play anywhere). If you're contractor #1 and do good work and can make the $ you're asking for anywhere else, you wouldn't match contractor #2 or #3's lower price just to do the job. Lanier is providing a service, not purchasing.

you are a piece of work.

Okay guy. Yes. I think he would still be a top 10 projection at NorCo. The better question is, would he still be a top 10 projected pick if he went to BYU instead of Tennessee? Then the answer is an even more concrete yes.

If only people in the real world made important decisions strictly on dollar amounts.

If the offer is astronomically higher, then yeah, it makes a difference. Your post was a little more broad-sweeping though, as if to indicate that kids are always just going to chase the highest bidder regardless of amount, and that's simply not the case.

My bad. Certainly not the case. I totally agree with that. I'm not sure where to draw the arbitrary line for "more" money but I meant MORE money not just a few thousand or something. I'm thinking in the hundreds of thousands difference. I'm not shaking a stick at a few thousand either but when you're talking 6 and 7 figure contracts, <10,000 difference isn't a big deal.

Then go be a Kentucky fan then. You must have had a 10.0 GPA in school because you have ZERO common sense.

I don't like Kentucky and yes I did have a 10.0 GPA.

Common sense would be knowing that kids aren't turning down big $ to play for your favorite school.

Yes, obviously you.

But, many consider other factors, too.

I shouldn't have engaged- I have better things to do.

Lowest/highest bidder meeting minimum requirements. If they didn't meet the minimum requirements, you wouldn't be considering them in the first place.

Ignore button is your friend
It’s usually a last resort for me but had to use it on a couple people in a different thread back in March when I got hammered for saying I feared Aidoo could transfer, which he did. So the responses I got are funny now. All those “he’s not going anywhere” posts (and a few other colorful retorts) by people that haven’t realized how college sports is now.
