Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The headline wasn't "Nico gets more NIL" the headline was asking a clickbait type question to entice clicks "Did Nico DEMAND..."

The burden of proof isn't on the person saying "did they demand more NIL" it's on the person making the accusation to begin with.

Great example for ya...

Seahawks OVERPAY Geno Smith to miss playoffs again
vs
Geno Smith receives bonuses despite Seahawks missing playoffs

Neither is technically wrong, but the tone of the article and the types of readers drawn in are going to vary with those headlines. The bonuses/incentives Geno Smith received were negotiated into the contract prior to the season and were personal without being tied to team performance...
OK, I had to check to see who you were responding to. You mean to tell me that the boring troll BOT was defending the a-hole troll Hooker?

With NIL I would just caution the world of medical and insurance...

More administration = less effective and additional cost.

Donors supporting NIL need to do it for the university not individual sports. The university/NIL collective can use the numbers they have available (based on scholarships, profit margins etc.) to allocate % to each sport.

I'm all for every player having an opportunity to make money off themselves...but also realistically outside the main 3 sports (Football, Basketball, Baseball/Softball) there is a drastic drop in how much NIL value exist...at least if they're going to pull it from a fan funded collective.

Now if you're a "name" all on your own, like the LSU Gymnast then go make $$$, but to act like she contributes as much profit to the margin as the starting QB or one of the big name Basketball/Baseball/Softball players is crazy. LSU isn't making much off her social media account, but she is so she can use that avenue to improve her NIL value....it's just not fair for the LSU donors in that case to see a larger chunk of collective funds spent to "retain" her.

But that's how NIL should work... Nascar didn't pay Danica more because of her looks, but she was able to leverage that & her popularity to go make more off endorsement deals outside Nascar than better drivers.

Here's a few of Dave Hooker's headlines.....View attachment 714523View attachment 714524View attachment 714525

Dave Hooker is the new John Adams. He's cut from the same cloth has Chad Pennington and Tyler Ivens. For every positive storyline, there's at least 5 negatives they talk about or manufacture. The Knoxville media does more to damage the look of UT, than the fans ever have.

A few of the ones of Knoxville sports talk that I like and respect their opinion....

John Wilkerson
Jason Swain
Brian Rice
Josh Ward

They can discuss TN sports (good or bad) without trolling the fan base. The ones I listed above are some of the worst for spinning the narrative to be worse than it really is. They don't all have to be sunshine pumpers but they shouldn't always be negative either. We need a few more "homers" covering the VOLS, or at least some reporters/shows that write positive stories/sports talk and not constantly beating on the teams, coaches, and fans.

Your turn. Give me a list of your favorites and the ones you don't like. Let me know why you feel the way you do about them.
I don't even mind Hooker that much. He's fine and is what he is. Maybe a little bit jaded from the decade of incompetence and feels like the negative take is always the safe bet when it comes to UT athletics.

Ole haircut though, can't do it. If he's on there I can't watch it.

Hooker feeds ol' haircut the 'foil' role. They are two parts of the same script.

Show me how to refute, BOT
How to refute? Easy. Find someone who has different information regarding the same situation as Hooker did. Say you like Basilio or Swain? Then find if they have discussed the same things as Hooker and see if they have conflicting information. Pretty basic stuff you should be able to handle.

Look Hooker hasn’t been right about everything. But he has been right about quite a bit over the years. For the record, Hooker is big time pro Nico.

I can’t stand Geno and I don’t agree with him much, but I do here. Let’s call it what this really is. It’s semi-professional sports and sign kids to contracts and there needs to be a penalty for leaving a program and entering the portal. Call it what it is and govern it accordingly.

Love the idea of the kids having to pay a buyout if they transfer.

Also think these contracts should be a 2 year minimum with penalties if they try to transfer before the 2 years.

Contracts eliminate the stupid off season negotiations….at least for the first 2 years.

Yeah unfortunately the bulk of NIL is coming from the universities and the fans of said university...not at all how NIL -should- work, but how it's working in college.

As such I think a 24 month contract would help eliminate the "my value has gone up!" BS. And if these players are smart they'll look at the professional leagues a bit to build in incentives for development.

Buyouts wouldn't be awful, but I could see that a bit harder to regulate. If the payment is for the Name, Image, or Likeness of said athlete then them moving teams doesn't exactly negate them being paid...they're not losing their product (NIL) in this case, only switching markets. Nike doesn't require Durant to pay back a portion of his endorsement because he switched teams ya know?

@butchna

Read an article from Dallas Fort Worth that 4 candidates if Deion does work out are:

Kellen Moore
Pete Carroll (Which makes zero sense )
Kliff Kingsbury
Jason Witten

You believe Witten is a pipedream?

This is why so many people have you on ignore. You either pick at posters during bad games (especially when everyone is already ticked off) or like today, you posted some trash click bait about a fan favorite, just because it had a controversial headline. When someone iniates you in the topic and gives you their point of view (with examples), you respond back with something like "I need more examples" or "do your own research and post it" or "refute". I never mentioned Basilio, so that tells me you didn't really read my post.

To be honest, I knew earlier what I was getting into but replied anyways. We do this a lot...... you @ me anytime I mention a referee because it's your chance to "troll" me and that's fine, sometimes I'll bite but it's not as fun as it used to be. Having debates on here is good but anymore you just want to waste people's time.
