Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

South Carolina players are playing their best ball right now, so IMO they would have beaten Texas yesterday regardless of where the game was held — even in Austin.

Even so, it definitely does help to play in front of an arena full of your own fans. No one can deny the power of that.

But the way I see it, money rules, and if Greensboro is outbidding everyone else to host, then they get to do it. If some other city wants to host, then they need to submit a higher bid.

It is what it is. Teams just need to start games strong and reduce the energy of the lopsided crowd.
Heaven forbid we play a championship in ACC Greensboro, NC.

SC would have won yesterday if they played Texas on the moon. Greenville is close to Knoxville, Athens and Columbia. Can you name a closer city location with great amenities that fits more SEC schools?

Who complains that the SEC football championship is played in Atlanta, baseball in Hoover and men's basketball in Nashville?
Nashville.

Nashville.
That's a Vandy home game. I don't know if a fair-to-everyone solution exists, though, 'cause no matter where it is the site will be closest to someone, and furthest away for someone else.

But since it seems obvious that Texas and Oklahoma are flush with oil money, and obviously South Carolina must be doin' alright too, maybe their fans would be more financially able to travel, right? 😄

I am for not having the WBB or MBB at a permanent location. The conference has gotten so spread out it is difficult for people to take off all the time to drive or the expense to fly to the tournament. I definitely see keeping Greenville as a regular spot, but adding places such as Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, New Orleans, and even Dallas to the mix. Dallas is a great draw for Texas, A&M, Arky, OU, and LSU. Nashville still is probably the closest to being in the center of the conference. The sites that don't give a decent bid won't get a chance, and the sites that don't draw well won't get a second chance. What is interesting about Nashville is that even when Vanderbilt used to sellout all their men's game and their women drew respectably, there are rarely more than a few hundred WBB Vandy fans and no more than a thousand MBB at the tourney when it is held in Nashville. So, Nashville shouldn't be counted out due to Vandy, just their dang Memorial Gymnasium.

Honestly there is no such thing as a Vandy Home Game. Bless their hearts!

Vandy fans won’t go to vandy for a home game there! Much less pay to go down town Nashville and pay high priced parking at the new tourist attraction called Nashville! JMO

Oh don't mistake me, I would very much like to be the program with all the five stars playing a two hour bus ride away from campus. Easier than neutral site games. But that doesn't change what it is.

Also, Tennessee only won 8 of its 17 SEC tournament championships in the state of Tennessee. The other 9, out of state, and definitely more than 90 minutes drive away.

And no, Memphis doesn't count. Ask anyone around Tennessee, they can explain it.

You're still the winners.
Last time I was in Memphis I might as well have been in Arkansas.

Congratulations to the Pauldo twins for fueling their high school to win the New Jersey non-public school state championship tonight by a large margin, 66 to 34. For the semi-finals and the finals, it was Mya who was the team's top scorer. Between the twins across the whole season, usually one of them led in scoring and then often the other would lead in assists and/or steals and occasionally even rebounds. Just going on stats, it seems that Mya has narrowed the gap between the two somewhat as the season progressed. This is not to take anything away from Mia, as she is likely to keep her lofty national ranking, but rather to say that we are lucky to get both of them. They seem to be able to cover all bases between them.
